Jerry Jones Thinks Dallas Cowboys Can Compete For Super Bowl This Year

Breaking news, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is an optimist.

Jones has always been that way. It seems like he’s always telling us how good he thinks his Cowboys are, or can be. However, his latest statement may have shown us all that he’s getting a tad senile.

Jones told 105.3 The Fan radio the Cowboys can compete for a Super Bowl, this year. Why have me tell you, take it straight from Jerry, “We know that you want your team as healthy and as in sync as it can be as we get on in to the end of the season. We know that we’ve played one division game and won it. We’ve got those guys, the Giants, coming back in here. We know that’s going to be a big game for us. All of those things give us a chance to take a team that is evolving into — if you look at the pluses yesterday — evolving into a team that can be a team that can compete for the championship. Not next year, this year.”

Perhaps Jones isn’t as disappointed as everyone thought he would be after losing to the Baltimore Ravens last week. Maybe he found a ray of light when his team fell to a record of 2-3! I know Cowboys fans everywhere were jumping for joy with the optimism that came from the loss.

Does anyone wonder why some Cowboys fans are delusional? It’s because of this type of rhetoric from a salesman like Jerry Jones. The sad part is, Jones believes it!

The truth is, and I’ve said this on more than one occasion, the Cowboys are an average team and have been for years. Actually they are currently below average so what is Jones seeing that no one else is? This type of talk and belief is bringing on false hope and will only set up more talk of disappointment after the season ends. See these words now and feel free to tell me I’m wrong after the season but if the Cowboys fail to make the playoffs, Jones will talk about the disappointment he has because the team was capable of making a run at a title. As Chris Tucker said in the movie ‘Friday,’ “write it down, take a picture, I don’t give you know what.”

It’s called perspective and Jones has none. I do think it’s possible for the Cowboys to improve, become a good team and make a playoff run, but I’ve seen no evidence that it’s likely. Possible, yes. Likely, no.

I don’t want to be the downer for Cowboys fans but I need to see continued improvement before I can say they can win consistently. I do believe this team can get better, but a Super Bowl run seems a little far fetched at this point. Instead of championship talk, I’d like to hear talk about getting wins first and it’s something the Cowboys haven’t done enough of.

Jones is a business man but he needs to stop selling the fans on the Cowboys; we’re already fans and we want the team to win. Stop telling us how good you think they are and let the team show us how good they can be.

Otherwise everything you say continues to ring hollow, unless you just want the headlines because that’s what this seems like to me.
