Sometimes old news becomes new news, and then you find out it is sort of old news and new news at the same time. Confused yet? Let me clear it up for you. During his holdout, it was pretty common knowledge in the Kansas City area that Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe wanted to be traded, and if the price were right, the Chiefs wanted to trade him. Offers went out and were rejected. That’s the old news.

Now, the new news is that the Chiefs are currently actively seeking a trade for Bowe again as the trade deadline approaches, with the Miami Dolphins as top of the list for potential suitors. During Bowe’s holdout the Dolphins were on the list as well, but felt like the price was too high. Now, I am no Chiefs media insider, but I know some people who know some people and from what I have heard, nothing confirmed of course, these talks will have to make it to the Chiefs front office from Miami, rather than the other way around.

So you see how the old news has now become the new news? The only snag with all this is that according to rumor, these latest “discussions” aren’t really discussions at all, and more of a creation by Bowe’s camp to try and get him out of Kansas City while he still can salvage a successful season and get a contract extension.

From the Chiefs perspective, it makes perfect sense to deal Bowe now. The season is all but lost. And I doubt that the Chiefs are going to want to throw the kind of money at Bowe he’s going to demand as a free agent. The Chiefs were tossing out some pretty rich offers for Bowe in the offseason, but at this point, some team like the Dolphins be able to get him on a sweet deal.

What’s reasonable, should this deal happen? I’d say if the Chiefs could package say Bowe and a 4th for a 2nd and 3rd from the Dolphins, they’d be ecstatic. What it would mean is that guys like wide receiver Jon Baldwin and Dexter McCluster would need to play a much greater role in the passing offense. But at this point, it’s more about looking ahead to the next season, instead of trying to salvage this one. Bowe is talented and would certainly fit the bill for what the Dolphins are missing of offense and be a great big target for rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

Will this trade happen? I tend to think no. If Bowe’s people can get both sides talking, I’ll go 50/50, but right now, from what I understand this new news it closer to being old news. Stay tuned, Chiefs fans.
