Coming into Week 7, the New York Jets are 13th in the league in rushing. That load has been carried by Shonn Greene who has 378 rushing yards and 4 rushing touchdowns on the season. Obviously for Jets coach Rex Ryan that isn’t enough. So how do you improve in the rushing game?
With Jets hurting at RB, could NYJ plug Tim Tebow in at RB vs Pats? Rex: “The answer is yes.” #nyj

Of course! Mehta also reports that either running back Joe McKnight (ankle) or Bilal Powell (shoulder) will play Sunday against the New England Patriots. And the Pats are 8th in rushing defense, so Greene won’t be able to hold down the fort himself.
“His skill set would be more based on power. He’s not going to be a blazer compared to other running backs, but he’s got power,” said Ryan as he spoke on using Tim Tebow at running back.
Once again Rex Ryan is mis-using Tim Tebow and the Patriots defense shouldn’t be afraid of this ploy. If we all remember, Tebow only rushed for 13 yards on 5 carries against New England in the divisional round of the 2012 NFL playoffs. It’s no mystery that Tebow is considerably “slow” compared to other wildcat players such as Colin Kaepernick or Brad Smith. According to Ian Rapoport, Tebow run’s a 4.7 on the 40-yard dash. That’s not a threat for a big play at all.
There may be a moment where they run a sweep to Tebow and it turns into a passing play, but those odds aren’t likely. Most people believe Tebow’s a full-back anyway, so maybe he gets that one yard needed on third-and-one, but he’s going to have to go through Vince Wilfork, Jerod Mayo and Brandon Spikes who aren’t the softest of hitters. I won’t be surprised if the Patriots rarely gameplan for Tebow as they know what he’s capable of and practicing situations where he’s the running back would be a waste of time.
This is just more proof that Tebow is being used more as a side-show than his real capabilities. They should be focusing on stopping the deep pass against Mark Sanchez and working on getting a pass rush to disturb Sanchez in the pocket. Tebow being a runinng shouldn’t even matter and it’ll likely not matter if used on the field Sunday.
