The Oakland Raiders were very impressive last week against the Atlanta Falcons despite losing the game. This week Oakland searches for win No. 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, who come in to Sunday sporting a similar 1-4 record.
This game is crucial for Oakland’s hopes of getting some respect this season and with the game in the Bay Area, they will be prohibitive favorites. Jacksonville has struggled this season and were dominated its last time out.
Quarterback: This isn’t close, Carson Palmer has had a great year this season and Blaine Gabbert has not been so good. Advantage: Oakland
Running Back: Both teams struggle running the football. Darren McFadden may be more talented, but Maurice Jones-Drew has played better this season. Advantage: Oakland
Wide Receiver and Tight End: Another unit where both teams have struggled. Oakland might have the worst unit in the league, but Jacksonville’s group isn’t much better. Advantage: Jacksonville
Offensive Line: Gabbert has spent most of this season on the turf and somehow the Raiders have kept Palmer clean. Advantage: Oakland
Defensive Line: There is only one unit on Jacksonville’s defense that is good and it isn’t the defensive line. Oakland’s line at least has some playmakers. Advantage: Oakland
Linebackers: The strength of both teams is in the linebacking corps and both teams have some great playmakers. Advantage: Draw
Secondary: After three interceptions last week, Oakland’s secondary is brimming with confidence. Jacksonville is mediocre against the pass since it is horrid against the run. Advantage: Oakland
Specialists: One of the few things the Raiders can hang their hat on is their special teams. There is no team out there that matches Oakland in this area. Advantage: Oakland
Coach: Neither team has a great head coach, but Dennis Allen gets the slight nod. Advantage: Oakland
If Oakland wants to win a game this season, this is going to be it.
