The New York Giants are going to get some much needed help along the defensive line. Chris Canty will be activated off of the PUP list and be available to the Giants in the middle of their defensive line tomorrow afternoon. Canty had off-season knee surgery that he’s been recovering from after injuring the knee during the playoffs last year.
The Giants had their best defensive line output in last week’s game, finally getting some good pressure and getting sacks, with six and all six were along the defensive line. Canty can give the Giants another weapon that they can use in the NASCAR package that they run.
The easiest way to get pressure and disrupt quarterback timing is getting pressure right in his face. Robert Griffin III has yet to face the kind of pass rush that the Giants can provide. If Canty can help get some push up the middle it can make Griffin go outside. Jason Pierre-Paul, Justin Tuck and the rest of the defensive ends need to clean up the mess once that happens at make sure to protect the edges and put Griffin on his back and try to rattle the rookie.
Canty had 47 tackles and four sacks last season, which was by far his best season in a Giants’ uniform. To make room on the roster for Canty, running back Da’Rel Scott was placed on season-ending IR. Scott injured his knee and had surgery on it this past Tuesday. There’s no doubt Canty will be rusty, however it will be good to have him back in the lineup.
