If there was a injury count in the NFL the Arizona Cardinals would be pretty high on the list. Cardinals Safety Kerry Rhodes will not play this weekend against the Minnesota Vikings. He has a back injury that will keep him out. What does this mean for the Cardinals?
The 8 year man has 20 career interceptions and has been a huge part of the success of the “birdgang” this season. The Cardinals will definitely need some help covering the Vikings receivers this weekend. The secondary depth has been banged up over the past few weeks and it’s getting better, but this injury is unhelpful at best. The good news is DE Darnell Dockett is almost 100 percent for the first time in weeks, so having two healthy defensive ends will have QB Christian Ponder shaking in his boots.
The Cardinals are going into this game with the same expectations as always. Win right now. They have been taking this season 1 play at a time and it seems to be working out for them quite nicely. I have been saying it all season, but the Cardinals are a family. If they continue to play like this, they will win.
This injury will slow the Cardinals down, but they will move on. Just like when Levi Brown, John Skelton, Beanie Wells, Ryan Williams, and Kevin Kolb went down. I am not sure who will replace Rhodes, but the depth chart shows James Sanders is next in line to fill the gaping hole Rhodes will leave in his absence. Whoever it is, I’m sure they will do what they can to win the game.
