During a physical battle between the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions, defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh leveled quarterback Jay Cutler, leaving the Bears’ gunslinger crumpled on the ground like a worthless piece of paper.

Although he would eventually return to the game, Cutler was temporarily knocked out of the contest with an apparent rib injury. The hit looked nasty – and probably felt nasty, too – but won’t land Suh a fine from the NFL.

Already considered one of the dirtiest players in the league, Suh has had his fair share of run-ins with the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell. Time and time again, his horrendous hits and outbursts take a hit on his wallet. This time around, though, the Lions’ disruptive defensive tackle has avoided losing a chunk of his paycheck.

Despite the damage that he did to Cutler, Suh didn’t feel it necessary to offer up his apologies to the Bears quarterback.

“There were no harsh words between us,” Suh said. “I wanted to make sure he was good. I’m never a person to injure anybody and take anybody out of the game. That’s why I checked on him when he was there on the ground. I asked one of his people if he was OK. And later on, I checked on him again.”

While Cutler was writhing on the ground, Suh did kneel by his side and awaited the quarterback’s eventual rising. There appears to be no bad blood flowing from the altercation, which bodes well for Suh and his standing as a dirty player.

The NFL community will continue to be confused by Suh and the image that he has cultivated for himself since being drafted by the Lions back in 2010. While he’s pedaling Subway sandwiches one minute, he’s throwing quarterbacks by their face masks the next.

For now, the image of a dirty, overbearing Suh remains intact.
