New York Giants Players Mostly Behind Ahmad Bradshaw’s Outburst From Sunday
In case you did not watch the New York Giants defeat of the Washington Redskins on Sunday, there was a couple of altercations on the field that made you wonder what was going on inside the head of Ahmad Bradshaw.
After a 15-yard run to the left side of the field, on which Victor Cruz was making a block and the player he was blocking ended up making the tackle, Bradshaw gave quite a love-tap on Cruz’ helmet, clearly upset with Cruz on the play. Cruz and Bradshaw were seen later arm in arm and had obviously hashed things out.
“Yeah, it didn’t tickle, to say the least,’’ Cruz said Monday according to the New York Times. “He wants the best out of everyone. On that specific play he felt like I could’ve done more. I agree with him and we hugged it out later on. It’s cool.
With Brandon Jacobs out of the picture, Bradshaw has tried to take on more of a leadership role with the offense. He was seen later having a verbal altercation with Tom Coughlin as he was running out on the field. Bradshaw said later he was strongly suggesting to Coughlin that the Giants run the ball more, and Coughlin clearly didn’t like that.
“Sometimes you have to control yourself and control your emotions,” Coughlin said. “He’s working at it.” When asked whether they had kissed and made up, Coughlin simply said “It’s been handled.”
Most of Bradshaw’s teammates are OK with what happened on the field, like Martellus Bennett and Antrel Rolle.
“He’s like that in the locker room, he’s like that at breakfast, he’s like that at dinner, he’s like that in the shower, he’s like that in the steam room, he’s like that in the training room,’’ Bennett said. “Ahmad is just an intense person. That’s why we love him. The way he plays on the field is the same way he is as a person.
“Hey, if I’m going to a fight, I’m taking Ahmad with me,’’ Rolle said. “I love that guy. I love his passion. I love the attitude he brings to a game. He’s a very emotional player; he wears it on his sleeve and I back him 100 percent. We live or die with Ahmad.’’
However, not everyone felt the intense attitude was necessary. Not surprisingly, Osi Umenyiora chimed in on the matter on ESPN radio.
“Sometimes your emotions get the best of you (but) there’s no room for that in our game,” he said.
Umenyiora is definitely in the minority, but clearly not everyone is backing Bradshaw on this. It makes you wonder if there are any other players that feel the same, but I wouldn’t worry about this dividing the locker room. The Giants are way too strong for that to happen.
