The New Orleans Saints were not able to extend their winning streak to three as they suffered a 34-14 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday. The Saints were simply outplayed and outmatched by the AFC West leading Broncos.

Drew Brees only managed to throw for 214 yards and two touchdowns as he was not enough to defeat Peyton Manning and the Broncos. Brees did all that he could to keep the Saints in the game but one man cannot beat an entire team.

The Broncos exploited the Saints in this game as they challenged the Saints’ defense to beat them. Unfortunately, the Saints’ defense failed to stop Manning as he threw for 305 yards and three touchdowns. Furthermore, the Saints defense failed to stop the run as Broncos running back Willis McGahee rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.

The biggest weakness of the Saints all season has been there defense and even Joe Vitt’s return was not enough to get the defense going. In addition to McGahee and Manning’s big days the Saints gave up a total of 225 rushing yards. The Saints were able to stay in games because of the play of Brees. Against the Broncos Brees struggled and the Saints’ defense did not give him much help to get the ball back in his hands.

The Saints have shown this season that they are a one-dimensional team with a horrible defense. The Saints only managed to rack up 51 rushing yards for the entire game and that continues to be an issue for the Saints along with their defense.

Next up for the 2-5 Saints is a Monday night matchup with the 3-4 Philadelphia Eagles in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Both teams will be coming off of a loss and looking to bounce back with a win. The Saints will be looking to stay relevant but even if they get a win against the Eagles a playoff berth seems very unlikely this season.
