The Jacksonville Jaguars are still unsure of how long star running back Maurice Jones-Drew is going to remain out with a foot sprain and their depth at running back may be an issue moving forward this season.

The Jaguars may choose to address their depth issue before the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday.

For now, the Jaguars are comfortable with Rashad Jennings carrying the load at running back, but he has had a history of injury problems over the previous two seasons and if he were to go down the Jaguars would be incredibly weak at the position. After Jennings on the depth chart is Montell Owens, Jalen Parmele and Keith Toston. Owens has the most experience of the three, but he is currently out with a shoulder injury and has never been given a featured role in the Jaguars offense.

There are several running backs that appear to be on the trading block the next couple of days including DeAngelo Williams of the Carolina Panthers, LeGarrette Blount of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Steven Jackson of the St. Louis Rams. Of the running backs available, Blount would cost the Jaguars the least amount in terms of his contract and what kind of draft pick it would require to pry him away from the Bucs.

Still, at 1-6 it would be hard for the Jaguars to give up anything of value for some insurance at the running back position. Their season is a lost cause and they will likely spend the remaining nine games on their schedule focusing on evaluating their passing offense and specifically Blaine Gabbert as they are likely looking at a complete front office overhaul this offseason.

Giving up draft picks for a running back would seem to be a pointless expense at this point.
