According to the NFL Power Rankings the Arizona Cardinals only fell two places to number 16. This is surprising considering their effort against the San Francisco 49ers and their up coming schedule. The Cardinals have the Green Bay Packers next, their bye week, and then the undefeated Atlanta Falcons. The next three weeks have 0-2 written all over them and the Cardinals will probably be 4-6 by the end of week 12.
This is sad news for Cardinals’ fans; the season had such high hopes after starting 4-0 with wins against the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots. Too many injuries are the cause of this particular slide. The defense can only handle so much of the load. Just ask the Seahawks who are also 4-4.
QB John Skelton has only broken the 70 mark on his QB rating once this year. A lot of that can be attributed to the worst offensive line in football, but at some point the Cardinals will have to stop making excuses. Heading into the game against Packers the fans cannot expect much out of Skelton. He will have to play on the road, so the crowd news will also be a factor.
When will the Cardinals have enough of Skelton and throw the rookie Ryan Lindley in? If the Cardinals lose this week, they will have two weeks for Lindley to prepare for the Falcons, so if they do decided to make the change that will be the best week to do it. The Cardinals are struggling and because of injuries they have very little options for change. Skelton will have to show something against the Packers or Ken Whisenhunt and company will have no choice but to sit the young QB down.
