New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees celebrated Halloween yesterday like most Americans and posed for a picture with his wife Brittany and their son Baylen. Brittany was dressed as Cinderella and Baylen did not appear to be sporting a specific costume in the picture. Then there was Brees dressed as the iconic Marvel character, Iron Man.
It was cool to see Brees share this photo on Twitter because it shows that he and other athletes are regular people who like to do regular things. I felt it was appropriate that Brees dressed up as Iron Man as the two have some similarities. For one they are both seen as super heroes.
Iron Man a.k.a. Tony Stark is a member of the Avengers and one of the greatest minds on the planet in the Marvel Universe. Likewise, Brees is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and one of the most cerebral as he is constantly picking apart defenses and burning them for major yardage.
Brees holds countless records and has really established himself as one of the best players in the NFL. In a way Brees is like the Iron Man of the football field as he always comes prepared to play and always has a plan of attack.
Furthermore, Iron Man and Brees both work with what they have. Tony Stark is a genius but does not possess any super powers, and besides his intellect he is just a regular guy. However, Stark uses his intellect and inventions to create his suit and becomes the Invincible Iron Man.
Brees does not possess any super powers either, unless you count his exceptional quarterback and leadership skills as super powers. Brees is not the typical NFL quarterback as he only stands 6’0″ 209 pounds. However, Brees makes up for it with his deadly accuracy and ability to run one of the most dynamic offenses in the NFL.
For Halloween Brees carried over his Iron Man persona off the field and became New Orleans ultimate Iron Man. The Saints need Brees to continue being their hero and hope that he can save their season.
The Saints’ playoff chances are starting to look a little bleak, but if anyone can get the Saints over the hump it is their Iron Man, Drew Brees.
