New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles missed practice today when he suffered a hand injury. Sproles’ injury does not appear to be too serious and should have plenty of time to rest up and get healthy. The Saints have a Monday night matchup at home against the Philadelphia Eagles and are looking to secure their third win of the season.
Sproles has had a decent season thus far but the Saints have used him more as a receiver than running back. Sproles only has 26 carries this season for 117 yards and no touchdowns. As a receiver Sproles has made 39 receptions for 323 yards and four touchdowns. Sproles is still one of the most valuable players that the Saints have and if he were to miss any time it would hurt the team.
Sproles broke the NFL record for all-purpose yards last season when he accumulated a total of 2,696 yards. Sproles is the “do-it-all” player for the Saints as he also the primary kick returner and punt returner. For the season Sproles has 402 kick return yards and 66 punt return yards. Sproles likely won’t break his own record at this rate but the Saints are happy with his production this year.
Hopefully Sproles’ hand injury will not have him sidelined for too long because the Saints are going to need his production if they hope to save their season. Sproles’ hand injury does not seem like much of a concern now but the Saints have been cautious this season with player injuries. Best case scenario is for Sproles to suit up and help the Saints secure a victory against the Eagles.
