The bad news keeps coming for the Arizona Cardinals. LB O’Brien Schofield injured his ankle in a loss to the Green Bay Packers. If there is a bright side to this particular injury it’s the fact that the Cardinals are going into their bye week. There is no word yet to the seriousness of the injury, but the week of down time should help the linebacker recover.

The Cardinals are hoping the injury is not a high ankle sprain. If he does have that specific injury he could miss a game or more depending on how fast he heals. The Cardinals do have a good backup plan, Quentin Groves. The backup linebacker has gotten some playing time this year and has been effective when he is in the game. The four year man out of Auburn has 2 sacks on the year and considered a pretty solid pass rusher.

According to Cardinals writer Kent Somers, if Schofield does miss some time the team “the team becomes dangerously thin at the position.” The Cardinals have lost 5 games in a row and are still looking to get back in the playoff hunt. That goal may be out of reach if you think about their schedule in the coming weeks.

DE Darnell Dockett says “no one seemed anxious to sit on a losing streak for an extra week.” He is correct, but this bye weeks should help the Cardinals get healthy. They only have a couple more games without RB Beanie Wells and that should help add some depth, as well as, leadership to the Cardinals, a team that looks to be on a sinking ship.
