Buffalo Bills Cut Kickoff Specialist John Potter
Today, the Buffalo Bills released this year’s 7th round pick in kickoff specialist John Potter.
Potter had fairly high expectations as a kickoff specialist since he was third in the nation among FBS schools in touchback percentage and he was picked over the other due to the fact he played his college football at Western Michigan. While that’s not quite a powerhouse school for the NFL, the theory had been that it was beneficial due to the weather being similar to South Buffalo.
I liked the idea of carrying two kickers, as fellow kicker Rian Lindell is fairly accurate for field goal kicking, however his kickoff power has been much to be desired. I speculate if that’s him getting up there in age, but that’s just my take.
I can only hope Potter lands on his feet somewhere as he is a great character guy, and maybe somewhere the stadium is a dome where weather is not an issue as I still think he can do kick the ball through the end zone on a consistent basis. But again that’s just my take…
