The Indianapolis Colts travel to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night football this week. Normally, teams hate to play on a short week, but for the Colts, they have to be salivating at the mouth.
The Jaguars are banged up and in dismay. They’ve only won one football game this season and will be without their star player who’s hurt and many others are banged up. Their quarterback Blaine Gabbert is also hurt but will suit up Thursday night.
Unfortunately for the Jaguars, the short week won’t allow any players to get healthy and after playing just four days prior to the game. Thursday is a day many of the hurt players do walk throughs or limited on practice time. This week they will be forced to play.
Spin it the other way and the Colts who’ve been hurt all year are finally getting everyone healthy and should have all their key players healthy and ready to go on Thursday night. Health won’t be a concern as they’re not only healthy now but deep.
Another factor where the Colts need to capitalize on the short week is preparation. The Jaguars won’t have much to go on in preparing for the Colts as they can’t use the film from Week 3. The Colts are no where near where they were then and honestly manhandled the Jaguars up until the final lucky play with 45 seconds left.
The Colts on the other hand can expect a very similar approach to the game from the Jags as they did in Week 3. The Jaguars are actually worse and without their star back. Indianapolis can put in the similar gameplan and instead of preparing for a new better team, they can just watch film and shore up what they messed up on in week 3.
Both of these factors need to be picked up by the Colts and capitalized on. If so, they will get their second AFC South road win of the season and move another closer to a playoff spot.
