NFL Rumors: Darren Sproles To Play In Week 10

Darren Sproles

Jason O. Watson-US PRESSWIRE

New Orleans Saints running back Darren Sproles missed the Saints’ 28-13 Monday night victory over the Philadelphia Eagles with a broken hand. Sproles suffered the injury back in week eight and was seen on the sidelines with a cast on his left hand in week nine. In the latest string of NFL Rumors it is speculated that Sproles could be back in week ten as the Saints face their bitter rivals, the Atlanta Falcons.

It is reported that an injury like the one Sproles suffered usually takes about two to six weeks to fully recover, but the Saints will re-evaluate Sproles this week to see if he can go in week ten. The Saints managed to secure a big win minus Sproles as the defense stepped up in a big way. Furthermore, the Saints also got great production from running backs Chris Ivory and Travaris Cadet.

However, the Saints will definitely miss Sproles’ production if he misses extended time. The Saints would like to see Sproles play against the Falcons because he is such a great weapon. In addition to the production Sproles gives the Saints in the running game, he is also one of the best receivers on the team.

Sproles has caught 39 passes for 323 yards and four touchdowns. Sproles’ 39 receptions lead all running backs this season and it is evident to see why he is such a huge asset for the Saints.

If Sproles does come back in week ten it is unclear how effective he will be. I would fully expect Sproles to be wearing some sort of cast in the game against the Falcons and that could hinder his performance. The cast could cause problems when Sproles carries the ball and it could be a big disadvantage for him as a receiver.

This next game against the Falcons is a must-win game for the Saints as they look to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Saints would like to have all of their weapons ready and Sproles is a big weapon for them. If Sproles plays in week ten hopefully he can give the Saints good production. However, if he does not play the Saints should consider using the combination of Ivory and Cadet again and see if they can make something happen in Sproles’ absence.
