Buffalo Bills Midseason Defensive Position Grades
Hi there, and it is the midseason for the Buffalo Bills and it’s time to grade the team’s performance by position, and yes I agree with all of the fans of the team we expected much more. I will be doing the offense and defense on separate slide shows, but every position will be grouped, and kickers are with the offense and punters will be here with the defense.
The defense has been awful to be kind, but at least they aren’t dead last in the league, though they should be at worst a top twelve defense with all the personnel on it now, including how much they have spent on this defensive line alone, it’s unlike Buffalo like to spend so much money, but we will see in the long run (I can only hope) if it will pay dividends.
Granted they are switching back from the 3-4 defense back to the 4-3 and we will see if this is just a transition problem or something much more systemic and needing to upgrade players still, but that’s just my take what do you all think?
Once again thank you for reading one of my articles, and I heavily encourage discussion especially on a topic likes this so either leave a comment on here, hit me up on twitter @TheProfessorSD or I am using Google+ so if you could +1 this and any other article of mine you’ve read and liked. I will discuss this article or anything else you’d like football related! Have a great day!
Defensive Line Grade
So money is in this defensive line a combined roughly $140 Million dollars has been put into this part of the team, by far more than any other position. Led by big name signing Mario Williams they have been looking defeated so much, not to mention allowing as many yards as ever. Which also has been the brunt of the fans attack in our losses, and deserving so. We have a tie between Kyle Williams and Mario Williams for the most sacks with four and a half. I can only hope that goes up in the second half of the season.
My midseason grade: C
It seems like the only starting linebacker that has had to learn a new position is rookie Nigel Bradham while the other two starters, Kelvin Sheppard and Nick Barnett are still adjusting from the 3-4 to the 4-3 and they have been punished severely.
My midseason grade: C-
Our greenest group of them all as we have had rookie Stephon Gilmore learning on the fly and second year player Aaron Williams playing at a poor level, as he should be learning how to play safety. Long time veteran cornerback Terrence McGee is hurt yet again, I think he is done for good after this year ends as he's back on season ending Injured Reserve. Leodis McKelvin has been playing extremely well as a kick returner, however has had less snaps as a starting cornerback. This cornerback corps has yet to have an interception either this year.
My midseason grade: C-
This one is hard to do as our free safety Jairus Byrd has been our best defensive back this season with three interceptions including two in the game versus Arizona. On the other hand and I do like this guy a lot as a person and as an athlete, George Wilson at strong safety has looked older and out of position this season. He also dropped what could have been a game preserving interception versus the Titans.
My midseason grade: B-
The Bills made a midseason switch at punter, by cutting veteran pro bowler Brian Moorman and bringing back rookie Shawn Powell. Powell looked as good, if not better than Moorman in training camp so I'm not shocked by the move as Powell is only 24 while Moorman is 37. Powell has punted the ball 15 times so far and has averaged 45.5 yards per punt including a long of 62.
My midseason grade: B

Who will be the Buffalo Bills surpise cuts?
What three players will be the surprise cuts this training camp? We know who the first 5 cuts are going to be because we don't know their names and they didn’t get on the field yesterday, and they won't get on the field during the preseason games. Read More
Three Carolina Panthers who will make a splash this preseason
Thursday morning, the Carolina Panthers arrived at Spartanburg, South Carolina for their first day of training camp. The team, whose home games take place at the stadium in Charlotte, has been coming to Wofford College in Spartanburg for its preseason festivities for years now. But for the casual, even hardcore, fan, there's a lot to keep track of during training camp. Things can move quickly, and a lot is on the line. Read More
Four players who will lead the Atlanta Falcons to success in 2015
If the Atlanta Falcons are going to accomplish the type of feats many of us are hoping they will, they're going to need some stars to step up and have some big-time seasons. Just being good won't cut it. If they're going to do it, though, these four players need to be superstars: Read More
