Yes, you read that right. I was proud of Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick yesterday, despite throwing another interception at the worst possible time. The bills could have beat the New England Patriots in Foxboro for the first time since 2000.
I am proud because he stood his ground and got in the face of Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes after receiving a cheap shot from him that knocked his helmet clean off. Then it happened again on the next drive, when Fitzpatrick was going out of bounds and Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard gave a cheap shot to Fitzpatrick (hence the picture I used). Both of these hits were flagged as personal foul penalties, and I wouldn’t be shocked if both players get fined for these hits. A fine for Spikes is more likely, since he has already been fined for the a helmet to helmet in the week four match-up in Buffalo on tight end Scott Chandler and it resulted in Chandler getting a concussion.
It would have been poetic justice if the Bills had won the game despite the adversity from all the personal foul penalties being called the on the Patriots. I think that the NFL should do more if they really are in the business of a player’s safety coming first, but that’s just my take. What do you all think? Let me know!
