NFL Rumors: Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick Likely Out For Remainder of Season

According to Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid, quarterback Michael Vick sustained a “pretty good” concussion in the second quarter against the Dallas Cowboys. Vick did not return to the game and is not expected to be medically cleared for practice until Wednesday at the earliest. Unconfirmed reports have surfaced that Vick is out for the remainder of the season, but they have not yet been confirmed.

“I’m 99 percent sure that’s exactly what you’re going to see happen,” a source told Jason Cole on Monday.

“Andy is going to go to [owner] Jeff [Lurie] and [general manager] Howie [Roseman] and say, ‘Let’s go with Foles and make the transition to the next era.’ ”

Vick’s injury opened the door for rookie third round draft pick Nick Foles to make his NFL debut. Foles completed 22 of 32 passes for 219 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. His passer rating of 85.3 doesn’t look too bad. But he also threw an interception touchdown in the fourth quarter and lost a fumble in the end zone in the final minute, which was recovered by Cowboys’ linebacker Anthony Spencer for a touchdown.

The Cowboys, who trailed 17-10 late in the third quarter, won in a rout, 38-23.

Foles will almost definitely start on the road against the Washington Redskins this Sunday. At 3-6, the Eagles are all but out of the playoff picture. The Redskins are also 3-6, so a game like Sunday helps in determining who finishes last in the division.

Wide receiver Jason Avant is also doubtful to play on Sunday with a hamstring strain. He injured it on a pass from Foles, which bounced off his helmet.

The challenge for Foles is surviving behind an offensive line that is playing without three key starters: left tackle Jason Peters, center Jason Kelce, and right tackle Todd Herremans. Right guard Danny Watkins has also missed the last three games with an ankle injury, although I have my theory that he has been benched.
