For three years now, the Dallas Cowboys have been waiting for Dez Bryant to become the elite wide receiver they thought he could be when they selected him in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft. They knew he had the talent but they were also aware he needed to do a good deal of growing up to do on and off the field.

If you ask Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, Bryant has improved so much in the past few seasons that he says Bryant has “come full circle.” Here’s what Romo had to say about Bryant in an interview with 103.3 FM; “Dez has come full circle from where he was a couple of years ago. We go by catches whether or not someone has a good game as fans or as media, sometimes. But when we watch the tape, we go by how he blocked, did he get open? The coverages are going to dictate who’s going to get the ball.”

Romo also spoke about Bryant’s ability to run routes, which has been a major topic of conversation; “But does he run his route right? Is it precise? Is he quick in it? He’s come 180 degrees, almost full circle where he basically gets to a point where he understands the game. Let’s say he started off doing it 70 percent when he first got here. Then he got to 85. He’s really close to being a guy where it’s 100 percent. You got to go through some things sometimes but he’s a kid that wants it, that works hard, and he’s got a really bright future.”

That is very high praise from Romo on a player who has possibly cost him a few interceptions on the year. If you’ve paid attention though, Romo has spoken very highly of Bryant throughout this season and hearing him do so again is no big surprise. We all know Bryant is far from a finished product but it’s nice to hear Romo continue to compliment Bryant’s game.

I think the best thing about Tony Romo vouching for Dez Bryant is the way this Cowboys team sticks up for one another. People have been looking for leaders on this team and when the quarterback sticks up for his receivers, even one’s who have cost him criticism, it demonstrates great team chemistry. Teammates should stick up for one another, whether things are going or bad, and Tony Romo has done that all year in regards to Bryant.

It also speaks to the work Dez Bryant has put into his game and he should be commended for that.

There is a long way to go for Bryant to become the receiver he should be, but the good news is he keeps getting better everyday. Just like Jason Garrett wants.
