Bryon Leftwich Named Starter Sunday Night Versus the Baltimore Ravens
Just announced, that Pittsburgh Steelers ruled starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger out Sunday night versus the Baltimore Ravens and Byron Leftwich was named the starter. Roethlisberger has a sprained shoulder a serious rib injury.
The rib injury is being taken much more seriously than the shoulder injury as it can impact vital internal organs, not to mention rib injuries only hurt when you breathe. So this could knock him out for both games versus the Ravens.
On to Leftwich, he was on the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2003-2006 as the starting quarterback, being taken in the first round, seventh overall out of Marshall. Leftwich had 9,042 passing yards, 51 touchdowns and 36 interceptions for the Jaguars in those four seasons. Also as a starter, Leftwich has a career record of 24-25 as a starting quarterback, including 0-5 since leaving Jacksonville, which might not bode well for the Steelers if Roethlisberger is out for an extended period of time.
Leftwich is perhaps immortalized by when in college he did a game winning drive on a broken leg where his offensive linemen picked him up and carried him and he is far from a small quarterback at 6’5″ 245 lbs.
