Jimmy Graham Wins The Battle Of The Tight Ends In Week 10
Jimmy Graham was named the NFC offensive player of the week for his week ten performance against the Atlanta Falcons. Graham hauled in seven catches for a season high 146 yards. It was the first time this season Graham had a game for more than 100 receiving yards. In addition to his 146 yards he also caught two touchdown passes as he helped the New Orleans Saints end the Falcons’ bid for a perfect season.
Graham’s week ten performance was obviously his best all season and he even had a better game than his idol, Falcons’ tight end Tony Gonzalez. Gonzalez had a monster game as well as he caught 11 passes for 122 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The two tight ends sort of offset each other but in the end it was Graham who edged Gonzalez for the top tight end of the game.
Graham looks to be coming to form and his ankle is clearly at or close to 100 percent. This is a great time for Graham to be peaking because the Saints will need him for the home stretch. There is still plenty of football to be played this season and the Saints are looking for a wildcard berth in the playoffs. If Graham can continue his recent production the Saints might be able to sneak into the playoffs come January.
Graham is such a nightmare for opposing defense because he is such a big target. The former basketball player stands at 6’7″ 265 pounds and it is nearly impossible to defend him without double teaming him. The Saints will be counting on teams double teaming Graham and thus opening up the field for the other talented receivers on the team.
The Saints will square off against the Oakland Raiders in week eleven and I would expect Graham to have another big game in Oakland. With Graham’s consistent play the Saints can surely extend their current two-game winning streak.
