The New York Giants brought free agent running back Joseph Addai in for a workout today leading to speculation that there might be more to Ahmad Bradshaw’s injuries than the Giants are letting on right now.

A couple of days ago, Tom Coughlin said Bradshaw would be undergoing a battery of tests during the bye week. Now, the Giants are bringing in Addai which leads me to believe that the test results didn’t exactly leave the Giants with warm fuzzy feelings.

Bradshaw injured his neck in the Week 2 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and missed a couple of weeks. He was productive once he returned, gaining 200 yards against the Cleveland Browns and 116 yards against the San Francisco 49ers. However, Bradshaw has had only 25 carries in the past two weeks and has voiced his displeasure with the decrease in playing time.

Addai left East Rutherford without a contract but it could be the Giants are looking for an insurance policy in case Bradshaw’s injury is a little more serious than originally thought. If the Giants do lose Bradshaw for a significant amount of time, then Andre Brown would get the lion’s share of carries. Any move the Giants make would be for depth purposes and would most likely be a third or fourth option.

Addai spent most of his career with the Indianapolis Colts before signing with the New England Patriots this past off-season before abruptly leaving and being cut. He has been a free agent ever since.
