New York Jets Running Back Shonn Greene Says Team Needs Change
Once again, off-field chatter and publicity has taken the forefront instead of on-field play with the New York Jets as the 3-6 team that is in jeopardy of missing out on the postseason for the second consecutive season is making news for everything else besides what matters most in the NFL; winning.
After making headlines with the media all season long with the Mark Sanchez/Tim Tebow debate, as well as players predicting that the team will reach the postseason despite their record and their head coach Rex Ryan being voted as the most overrated head coach in the game the Jets are back at it again and this time change is the topic of conversation from at least one prominent member of the team.
On Wednesday, 12 unnamed Jets players ripped Tebow to the New York Daily News and not long after that the team’s starting running back Shonn Greene told Yahoo! Sports “something’s got to change.”
Greene continued by saying, “When you get to the point where you’re 3-6, and losing and losing, a couple of guys are like, ‘Oh, what would happen?’ But guys at the same time have faith in Mark (Sanchez), so it’s kind of an up-and-down thing.
“You feel bad for Mark, but at the same time, you want to win games. We’re not here to protect people’s feelings. If you want to win games, you’ve got to try something. If somebody’s not getting the job done, you see if somebody else can do it. It’s the same with coaching, or any position. You don’t mean to belittle someone or say ‘He sucks.’ That’s just the harsh reality.”
During a Jets team meeting on Wednesday, Ryan stood up and asked for the player who called Tebow “terrible” to identify himself. However, no one did so.
The Jets do need change whether it be at the quarterback position, the coaching staff, front office management, ownership or perhaps all of the above. Something needs to be done, otherwise this team which was filled with a bright future and promise just three seasons ago will completely dissolve into the Jets of the 70′s, 80′s and most of the 90′s, which wasn’t that good of a franchise.
