Predicting Week 11 NFL Action

Ben hurt

Week 10 in the NFL season is over. Some of the surprises this year are the Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos, and the New Orleans Saints clawing their way back to 1 game under 500 after starting the season 1-5. Each team has surprised us with the play from their rookie or surprising veteran quarterbacks.

With exception of the Saints quarterback Drew Brees, Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, Andrew Luck, and Peyton Manning have already done more than expected of them this season. The Broncos and Colts are 6-3 and the Seahawks are 6-4. As the season goes on there are less and less surprises. We know what we are going to get out of the people on the field now.

The surprises we do see are injuries. Last week, four notable players went down with concussions and one more with a shoulder injury. Chicago Bears Jay Cutler, San Francisco 49ers Alex Smith, Philadelphia Eagles Michael Vick, and Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson are concussed. Pittsburgh Steelers Ben Roethlisberger sprained his shoulder. Big Ben could miss some significant time, but as for the rest of players they still have to pass the neurological tests that the NFL requires.

This week is now 11. It’s time for the most important stretch of the season. There are 7 weeks left and this is the last week of byes. Who will have the biggest upset, blowout, and what will be the game of the week? All of these questions I aim to answer in my week 11 NFL predictions, enjoy.

Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills

The Miami Dolphins got destroyed last week against a Tennessee Titans team that is just not that good. The Bills lost a heartbreaker to the New England Patriots. The Dolphins need to win this week to keep their wild card hopes alive. This is going to be a good game. Not quite game of the week material, but still worth watching. Rookie Quarterback Ryan Tannehill has been somewhat unpredictable this year. The Bills will be without running back Fred Jackson, but there is no reason to think C.J. Spiller can’t handle the entire bulk of the carries for one game.

Prediction: Bills figure out that defense is a part of the game. Dolphins 17, Bills 27

Arizona Cardinals at Atlanta Falcons

Ryan Matt

The Arizona Cardinals have lost 5 games in a row and are going on the road against the 8-1 Atlanta Falcons. I thought about calling the upset for this game, but then I realized that was just not going to happen. The Cardinals don’t score enough points to keep up with the high flying Falcons. Too many weapons and better coaching will be the reason the Falcons destroy the Cardinals on the field, but not on the scoreboard, at least till the fourth quarter. The Cardinals do have a good defense, but their effort will not be enough.

Prediction: QB John Skelton is replaced by Ryan Lindley at halftime. Cardinals 13, Falcons 31

Cleveland Browns at Dallas Cowboys

This is my upset of the week. The Dallas Cowboys are coming off a comeback victory against the Eagles. The Cleveland Browns are coming off their bye week. The Browns are refreshed and ready to go. RB Trent Richardson is going to break a few long runs on the Cowboys and make their life difficult in general. Rookie Brandon Weeden will limit his mistakes at the quarterback position and the Browns defense will get a couple of interceptions against the league leader in throwing to the other team, Tony Romo.

Prediction: Romo squeezes out a few tears on the sideline. Browns 20, Cowboys 17

Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is once again in the top three in terms of MVP voting. He is a great leader and he will be the difference in this game. His ability to get the ball into his playmakers hands is amazing. The Detroit Lions have come back from a disappointing start, but their disappointment will return this weekend when they lose their second straight game.

Prediction: Rodgers gets an early lead and coasts. Packers 35, Lions 16

6 of 15

Cincinnati Bengals at Kansas City Chiefs

Unfortunately for the Kansas City Chiefs, this is my blowout of the week. The Chiefs put up a great effort against the Steelers. However, their effort was in vain. The Chiefs may not win another game this season. They are that bad. On the other side, the Cincinnati Bengals are coming off a blowout victory over the New York Giants. Considering their recent struggles, this is great news in a division with Steelers and Baltimore Ravens. They will probably come up short this year, but it won’t be due to lack of effort. This is a good team with a lot of young talent.

Prediction: Chiefs lose, Hard. Bengals 38, Chiefs 17

Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins

The Eagles have already announced that Nick Foles will take over at quarterback. In my opinion, this is not the best for the franchise, but whatever the decision is made. The Eagles will find out that Michael Vick is not the root of the problem for this team. Foles throws 3 interceptions this week and Eagles’ fans will be screaming “we want Michael Back”

Prediction: Robert Griffin III is the best rookie in Week 11. Eagles 10, Redskins 24

8 of 15

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers

This game could be a shootout. Whoever has the best offense will win the game, The Carolina Panthers didn’t put much of an effort against the Broncos and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were able to handle the failing San Diego Chargers. I expect both quarterbacks to have a good day, as well as Buccaneers RB Doug Martin. The Panthers will not make the playoffs this year as they continue to build their team. The Buccaneers need to win this game to have a chance at the playoffs.

Prediction: Martin runs through, around, over, and under the Panthers for the win. Buccaneers 28, Panthers 20

9 of 15

Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans

I do not think this will be a blow out. The Texans are too classy to run up the score, unless it’s on defense. Houston Texans’ RB Arian Foster is going to have some fun in this game. The Jacksonville Jaguars are not athletic enough to stop Foster. If they do, Matt Schaub is just going to throw up and down the field and the Jaguars are going to have a bad time. There will be no answers for the Jaguars on Sunday.

Prediction: Foster rushes for 150 yards and 2 TDs. Jaguars 3, Texans 24

10 of 15

New York Jets at St. Louis Rams

The New York Jets have not played well against the NFC West, or really any team as of late. The Jets offense was unable to score against the Seahawks defense in their loss. The St. Louis Rams tied. How the NFL lets a tie happen is beyond me, but the record shows it. Rams RB Steven Jackson is about to run all over this banged up Jets defense. The Jets will have no choice but to start Tim Tebow in the second half in hopes that he creates a miracle. He will not.

Prediction: Tim Tebow will forget how to throw the football entirely. Jets 17, Rams 30

11 of 15

New Orleans Saints at Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders defense has pretty much been nonexistent these past few games. That is not a good thing when playing Saints QB Drew Brees. The Raiders are 24th in passing yards allowed this season and the Saints sure do love to throw the ball. They will come into the game averaging just over 300 yards a game and looking to provide some much needed entertainment to the Raiders fan base. Their only hope is to let QB Carson Palmer run their defense, because lets face it, he’d probably do a better job.

Prediction: Palmer throws a football at Defensive Coordinator Jason Tarver and hits him in the face. Saints 41, Raiders 19

12 of 15

San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos

The Chargers are not going to have fun in Denver. This team has struggled this year and it won’t get any easier this weekend. Philip Rivers is going to turn the ball over and Peyton Manning will be himself on his way to his fifth MVP season. His 108 quarterback rating leads the league and his 21 touchdowns is second to only Drew Brees. The Broncos will try to get their run game going, but Manning will have too much fun picking the Chargers secondary a part.

Prediction: Peyton Manning coasts his way to a 7-3 record. Chargers 17, Broncos 34

13 of 15

Indianapolis Colts at New England Patriots

The Patriots will not lose to a rookie quarterback. QB Tom Brady just won’t let it happen. The Patriots defense will probably get burned a lot, but the Colts will not be able to keep up with the offensive explosion that is the Patriots. RB Stevan Ridley will have another good game and so will Andrew Luck, but his effort will not get the job done. Plus, this game is at New England, so that doesn’t help the Colts’ chances.

Prediction: Bill Belichick coaches his team to a win, without cheating. Colts 10, Patriots 28

14 of 15

Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers

The Ravens and Steelers is one of the nastiest rivalries in the game. This game will be ugly and flags will fly, but without Ben Roethlisberger the Steelers just don’t have a chance. Ray Rice, Joe Flacco, and company will lead their team to victory. This game will get out of hand when the Steelers get down. I just hope nobody gets hurt in the process.

Prediction: Big Ben’s injury is too much to overcome. Ravens 31, Steelers 16

15 of 15

Chicago Bears at San Francisco 49ers

This is my game of the week. The Bears and 49ers both had to play a part of their game without their starting quarterbacks. Jay Cutler and Alex Smith are both questionable for the game on Monday night. Working for both teams is the fact that they both get an extra day to heal. This is a showdown of the best defenses in the league. The running game will determine who wins and loses this game if either quarterback cannot play. It’s hard to make a prediction for this game, but I will go with the team I want to lose.

Prediction: Alex Smith plays, but is not effective against a defense that might eat your children. Bears 24, 49ers 16
