Stevie Brown Losing It?

New York Giants S Stevie Brown came up from nowhere to have a dominating month of October. His five interceptions and two forced fumbles helped the Giants win games, including against the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys.

However, Brown has struggled in the last two games. He has not created any turnovers, and he has been burned on assignments, most notably on the Cincinnati Bengals first possession when Bengals WR A.J. Green caught a touchdown pass where he was wide open.

Brown took over for S Kenny Phillips, who was injured in their final game in the month of September, against the Philadelphia Eagles. Brown filled in admirably, making fans forget about Phillips altogether.

Fans aren’t calling for Phillips’ return yet, but Brown has to get it together if he wants to continue getting playing time even after Phillips returns. After the bye week, the Giants host the Green Bay Packers. They have a quarterback by the name of QB Aaron Rodgers.

Phillips told reporters he was healthy enough to return to their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, a setback in his recovery forced the Giants to rest him through the bye week to ensure his long-term health for the rest of the season.

I previously stated they should go with a three-safety look because S Antrel Rolle is stronger closer to the line of scrimmage. The Giants played S Deon Grant a good amount in their playoff victory against the Packers last season. Let’s see if they go to that look a little.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Giants plan on using Phillips if he returns against the Packers. Brown can’t worry about that though. He needs to stop blowing assignments or he’ll be strictly a special teams player once again.
