The Oakland Raiders seem to have an injury report that is becoming longer and longer each week. Now, safety Tyvon Branch looks to be their next victim.
Branch suffered a neck injury last week, and has been questionable all of this week. Branch missed his second practice in a row on Friday, and it is appearing that his status for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints is doubtful. He does not have a history with injuries, so this is becoming a concern for the already struggling secondary of the Raiders.
Branch has played in every game for the Raiders’ past three seasons, although he is not having a break out year, the Raiders could use all the help they can get. He has recorded 64 tackles and has one interception so far this year. The last time Branch missed a game was his rookie year, where he missed half the year due to a shoulder injury.
Branch has been a consistent tackler for the Raiders, but their defense was still bad with him, without him they might be unbelievably bad. His tackling ability at least helps keep the opposing offense in check (just like Michael Huff), but now one less guy who can tackle in the secondary creates a defense that can not defend or stop the passing game.
Branch is still listed as questionable, but do not be surprised if the Raiders rule him out before Sunday’s game that could be a lopsided mismatch.
