Week 10 Team Grades
Grading the Teams for Week 10
Well, we've had one game for week 11 in the books. Quickly we will look back at week 10, and I feel that team grades are in order since there were some great games on the docket. That being said, there were also some awful games as well, and everything in between.
This is why I love the NFL more than anything; one team can play amazing one week, then the next they struggle and barely score points. This shows the parity, not to mention all the different football minds at work. Since this is a copycat league, it can show how it a plan of attack can work brilliantly one week, but when the next team tries it, they look bad for copying one another.
I will be firm but fair with the grading. That being said, I will not give a team an 'F', due to no one getting shut out and/or having less than 150 yards of total offense. This is a total team grade. Also, I will not be breaking it down by position or even side of the ball, but there will be detailed comments.
Once again, thank you for reading one of my slide show articles. I heavily encourage discussion so either leave a comment on here or visit my Twitter @TheProfessorSD. I am also using Google+, so if you liked this article, give it a +1. I will discuss this article or anything else football related! Have a great day!
Before this week the Atlanta Falcons were undefeated. The Falcons were stonewalled with two minutes left in the game against the New Orleans Saints; subsequently, they lost the game 31-27.
Atlanta Falcons' Week 10 Grade: B
The Baltimore Ravens beat the Oakland Raiders from pillar to post 55-20. It was a three phase beat down.
Baltimore Ravens Week 10 Grade: A+
One wrong play at the end of the game and the Buffalo Bills would have knocked off the New England Patriots in Foxboro. It would have been their first win there since 2000, but the final ended up to be 37-31 Patriots.
Buffalo Bills Week 10 Grade: B+
The Denver Broncos defense victimized Cam Newton to the tone of seven sacks. Peyton Manning was his legendary self, and the Panthers lost 36-14.
Carolina Panthers Week 10 Grade: C+
This game was a defensive war, and it didn't help the offenses when Jay Cutler was knocked out of the game with a concussion. The Bears had four turnovers and 249 yards of offense, but they lost 13-6.
Chicago Bears Week 10 Grade: C.
The Cincinnati Bengals caught the New York Giants in the trap game of the week. The Bengals took advantage of four Giants turnovers, and won the game 31-13.
Cincinnati Bengals Week 10 Grade: A-.
The Dallas Cowboys trailed most of this game, then suddenly woke up in the fourth quarter. They put it on fairly thick against their rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, and beat them 38-23. The Cowboys only had 193 yards of total offense; however it was their defense and special teams that picked up the slack.
Dallas Cowboys Week 10 Grade: A-.
Peyton Manning was simply Peyton Manning and I think he's back and as good as ever with a 27 for 38 day with 301 yards and a touchdown pass. The sky is the limit for this Denver Broncos team.
Denver Broncos Week 10 Grade: A-
It sounds like the Detroit Lions caught fire too little too late, as they lost to the Minnesota Vikings 34-24. The Lions were also scoring in garbage duty to keep the game respectable.
Detroit Lions Week 10 Grade: C-.
The Houston Texans took the defense to a defensive team, with the Chicago Bears beating them 13-6 in a rain storm. They forced four turnovers on the Bears, and that's how the cookie crumbled in the windy city.
Houston Texans Week 10 Grade: A-.
Rookie Andrew Luck had a very manager-type game through the air, with only 227 yards passing and no touchdowns; however, he did have two rushing touchdowns against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Indianapolis Colts Week 10 Grade: B-.
Blaine Gabbert has to stop trying to play hero. I think it's going to hurt the Jaguars more than it helps them if he keeps playing while injured. That being said, Chad Henne is not much better with two healthy shoulders. They would have lost even worse than 27-10 to the Colts if Henne played a full game.
Jacksonville Jaguars Week 10 Grade: C-.
Kansas City Chiefs
Despite losing 16-13 in overtime to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Kansas City Chiefs had their first lead of the season. They also put Ben Roethlisberger out of commission for a while.
Kansas City Chiefs Week 10 Grade: B.
One of the worst losses in Miami Dolphins' franchise history was losing to the Tennessee Titans 37-3. The Dolphins were a turnover machine, and that's what cost direly them.
Miami Dolphins Week 10 Grade: D.
The Minnesota Vikings beat the Detroit Lions 34-24, at home. They had 403 yards of offense, and won the turnover battle 2-0. Adrian Peterson had a whopping 171 yards of that 403 by himself.
Minnesota Vikings Week 10 Grade: A.
New England Patriots
The New England Patriots edge out the Buffalo Bills on a last minute interception by Devin McCourty that sealed the game and won 37-31. If not for the three turnovers by the Bills, I don't think the Patriots would have pushed that win out.
New England Patriots Week 10 Grade: A.
New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints stopped the Atlanta Falcons' unbeaten streak inside the Superdome, as they stonewalled the Falcons at the two yard line. The Saints had 440 yards of total offense and looked like the old team.
New Orleans Saints Week 10 Grade A.
New York Giants
The New York Giants fell into the trap game hook, line and sinker as they lost to the Cincinnati Bengals 31-13. You can't win many games when you have four turnovers, especially on the road. However, Eli was not elite.
New York Giants Week 10 Grade: D.
New York Jets
The New York Jets' offense should be ashamed of themselves; they lost to a team traveling east in the Seattle Seahawks 28-7. The only bright spot for the Jets was when Muhammad Wilkerson scored on a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
New York Jets Week 10 Grade: D
The Oakland Raiders are like a car without an engine with this subpar running game. It didn't help matters when they ran into a buzz saw named the Baltimore Ravens, as they got slaughtered 55-20.
Oakland Raiders Week 10 Grade: C-
The Philadelphia Eagles had this game until the fourth quarter, when the Dallas Cowboys seemingly rose from the dead. The Eagles lost the game 38-23. Losing Michael Vick for possibly the rest of the year also won't help Andy Reid's chances of staying head coach.
Philadelphia Eagles Week 10 Grade C.
The Pittsburgh Steelers won the battle, but did they lose the war? They beat the Kansas City Chiefs 16-13 in overtime; however, they may have lost the war due to losing quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
Pittsburgh Steelers Week 10 Grade: B+.
San Diego Chargers
Despite blowing out the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with an almost 150 yard advantage, the San Diego Chargers still lost 34-24. The yardage difference can likely be attributed to a blocked punt and an interception returned for a touchdown.
San Diego Chargers Week 10 Grade: C+.
San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers pulled off their first tie in four seasons with a score of 24-24. They also lost quarterback Alex Smith for the second half and over time; second-year back up Colin Kaepernick had to lead the team. While Kaepernick was accurate, he only had 117 yards and no touchdowns.
San Francisco 49ers Week 10: C+.
The Seattle Seahawks impressively embarrassed the New York Jets 28-7 in the loudest outdoor stadium in the NFL. The Jets couldn't do anything right on offense.
Seattle Seahawks Week 10 Grade: A-.
St. Louis Rams
The St. Louis Rams had 458 yards of total offense and beat up the San Francisco 49ers for most of the game. However, both teams tied 24-24.
St. Louis Rams Week 10 Grade: B-.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the San Diego Chargers 34-21. With that being said, the Buccaneers also had roughly 150 less total yards than the Chargers.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Week 10 Grade: B-.
The Tennessee Titans dominated the Miami Dolphins down in South Beach. It was one of their worst home losses in Dolphins' franchise history, with the Titans defeating them 37-3.

For Once, Quarterback Isn't the Problem for Browns
The Cleveland Browns are an utter disaster in many areas, but right now, quarterback isn't one of them. Read More
