It all comes down to Sunday for the Indianapolis Colts. If they want to make the playoffs, then a win against the Buffalo Bills in Lucas Oil Stadium will be the deciding factor. If the Colts win, they will make the playoffs, if they lose they may end up being on the outside looking in come January.
Right now, the Colts are 6-4 and hold a two game lead over the Bills (4-6) in the standings. If Buffalo wins, the Cols will fall to 6-5, while the Bills move to 5-6 and one game back. Buffalo will then hold the tie-breaker for playoff seeding and could be the reason why they make it and the Colts don’t.
Following their Week 12 matchup, the Bills have a home game against the one-win Jacksonville Jaguars team, while the Colts travel to Ford Field to take on the Detroit Lions. That game could be tough for the Colts as they could certainly fall while the Bills should beat a bad Jaguars team at home in the cold. That would put both teams at 6-6 and the Bills would then move into the playoffs and drop the Colts out.
From there, the Bills have two home games against the Seattle Seahawks and New York Jets and travel on the road to take on the St. Louis Rams and Miami Dolphins. I honestly think the Bills go 2-2 at worse and finish no worse than 8-8 and own the tiebreaker on Indianapolis.
The Colts, on the other, hand have two home games against the Tennessee Titans and the Houston Texans and have two road games at the Kansas City Chiefs and the Texans. Again, the Colts should split those at least and end up 2-2 in the final month. That too would put the Colts 8-8 which would be miraculous for a rebuilding team after coming off of a two win league worst season. But, by losing to the Bills, they would lose the tiebreaker and not be in the playoffs.
That would be a huge heartbreak for the team and their fans as prior to the dismal loss to the New England Patriots last Sunday everyone thought the Colts would be in the drivers seat for a playoff spot. That’s why the game against the Bills on Sunday is the game of the year for the Colts.
If they win, they move to 7-4 and then hold a three game lead on the 4-7 Bills. From there, that could give the team confidence to win in Detroit and come back to win at home against division rival Titans the following week . That could put the Colts 9-4 and clinch a spot before heading to the Texans on December 16th.
It’s all going to come down to this game on Sunday. It will make the playoff picture much clearer.
