Where do the Chicago Bears Go From Here?
The Chicago Bears are now on a two-game losing streak. As I sit here in my Bear Zubaz, I am reminded of how this team can be either really good or really bad. Tonight, in an effort to keep clean language I am not going to say how I really feel about tonight’s abysmal effort against the San Francisco 49ers.
There’s a lot of blame to go around. It starts at the top, and as much of a fan as I am of Lovie Smith, tonight showed a total lack of preparation. It is one thing to lose a close game and have a few bad breaks, but another to be totally unprepared. Tonight, the Bears were totally unprepared in all aspects of the game. I think it is time for this team to look in the mirror and reevaluate where things are going over the last few games.
Quite honestly, I just don’t know where this goes from here. Obviously, the objective is to get into the playoffs. Once that happens, it becomes a single-elimination tournament. It’s not like the season is over after tonight, but every team has a roadmap on how to beat the Bears. You attack the tackles play after play after play. Defensively, you attack the perimeter. The Bears safeties took major steps backwards today, and I am afraid Jim Harbaugh exploited a weakness many of us saw going into the season. This secondary may be an issue. And it was tonight.
Adjustments will be made and the Bears should have a better effort next week at home against the Minnesota Vikings. But you know darn well that Jared Allen is licking his chops at the moment.
