NFL Rumors: Pittsburgh Steelers to Make Decision on Quarterback Tuesday?

Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

The NFL rumors around the Pittsburgh Steelers and their quarterback situation are about to get a little interesting. Mike Kafka will reportedly be visiting the Steelers Tuesday along with Brian Hoyer. The Steelers also reached out to Dennis Dixon, who is currently on the Baltimore Ravens practice squad, but he turned them down.

Kafka appeared in four games for the Philadelphia Eagles last season, completing 11 passes on 16 attempts for 107 yards but did throw two interceptions.

Hoyer spent his first three years with the New England Patriots and appeared in a total of 13 games, all in mop-up duty. For his career, Hoyer is 27-for-43 for 286 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

The Steelers have watched as quarterbacks Ben Roethlisberger and Byron Leftwich have gone down to injury the past two weeks, leaving Charlie Batch as the only healthy quarterback on the Steelers roster. The Steelers are likely to sign one of the two quarterbacks tomorrow to at least allow whomever they sign to receive some repetitions in practice. Of course, there is always a chance that neither quarterback does anything to instill any confidence from the coaching staff, leaving the Steelers to continue their search.

If neither Kafka or Hoyer is signed the Steelers don’t have a very diverse group to choose from with David Garrard, Seneca Wallace, Donovan McNabb, and A.J. Feeley leading the crop of free agents.

The Steelers also brought in free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress who has not played since last season with the New York Jets. The Steelers are likely going to be without Antonio Brown and Jerricho Cotchery next week.
