New York Jets: Mark Sanchez leads team to first victory in November
The New York Jets got a much needed victory over the St. Louis Rams yesterday by a score of 27-13 in the Edward Jones Dome. The Jets are now 4-6 on the season and have a quick turnaround as they host the New England Patriots this Thursday night on Thanksgiving. The game is set for 8:20 pm ET.
We continue to learn that Mark Sanchez is effective when he attempts 20-25 passes a game and doesn’t turn the ball over. Sanchez completed 15 of 20 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown pass came in the second quarter on a 25-yard pass to Chaz Schilens.
The defense played very well outside of the Rams first drive. The Rams converted only five third-down opportunities during the game while running the same amount of plays the Jets did with 65. Sam Bradford completed 22 of 44 passes for 170 yards with two scores and one interception.
The fact that Brian Schottenheimer was calling the plays probably helped the defense. We saw a lot of his plays ran on the Jets. The Rams were able to run the ball very effectively on the ground but the Rams would often go with an empty backfield set on short-yardage situations. Steven Jackson rushed for 81 yards on only 13 carries for an average over six yards per attempt. The fact that the Rams never stuck with the run helped the Jets who haven’t been able to stop the run all season.
Tim Tebow accounted for minus six yards of offense during the game. His output comes during a week where anonymous Jets were calling him terrible. It will be interesting to see how much playing time he gets going forward.
