It was controversial because he was clearly down (his elbow and knee were both clearly down); however, Forsett didn’t hear a whistle, so he stood up and ran it in for an 81-yard touchdown run. It wasn’t overturned via replay due to the fact that Lions’ head coach Jim Schwartzerroneously threw out his challenge flag. As a result of this crucial error by Schwartz, the Lions suffered a double whammy as they couldn’t benefit from the replay (so the touchdown was allowed to stand), and there was a 15-yard penalty assessed on the ensuring kickoff as he was given a personal foul for throwing the red flag out on an un-challengeable play. CBS commentator Jim Nantz explained it extremely well when the networked returned from commercial. I still don’t like that rule, but it can’t be changed now. If you want a detailed explanation of the rule and what went down I suggest you clicking this: Flag On The Play: NFL Needs to Change the Red Flag Rule.
