NFL Week 12 Predictions
Predicting Week 12 NFL Action
It is week 12 in the NFL season and the bye weeks are over. In week 11, we saw a plethora of overtime games that really should have never happened. The Dallas Cowboys should have destroyed the Cleveland Browns, but they beat them OT. Same goes for the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers.
It’s Thanksgiving week and fans will be able to catch three games on Thursday. This is a great substitution for arguing with family over things that don’t really matter. Why argue with family when you can argue over the important things in life, like football? The three games on Thursday don’t really have any playoff implications except for the Cowboys needing to win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The playoff pictures are starting to form. I for one am excited to see which team will miss out on the playoffs. In the NFC, football could see an 11-5 team watching from the couch in January. Although I would feel bad for that team, it would be hilarious. The way the Green Bay Packers are playing, I wouldn’t be surprised if they won the rest of their games and topped the Chicago Bears for the top spot in the division.
Who will have the biggest upset, blowout, and game of the week? All of these questions I aim to answer. These are my predictions for week 12 in the NFL season, Happy Thanksgiving.

Houston Texans at Detroit Lions
The Texans will travel to Ford Field to take on the Detroit Lions. The Texans won a close one in overtime against the Jaguars. The Lions lost a close one at home to the Packers. Last week, the Texans were unable to get RB Arian Foster going, but they were able to get Andre Johnson almost 300 yards receiving. Just goes to show what happens when a team tries to stop Foster. The Texans are not a one dimensional team, however they did get beat on defense pretty hard. The Lions do not have a significant run game this season, so it will probably be up to QB Matthew Stafford to connect with his All-Pro receiver Calvin Johnson. In the end Foster ends up with over 100 yards.
Prediction: Lions can’t keep up with the Texans’ offense. Texans 34, Lions 24
Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys
This is a must win game for the Cowboys. This defense cannot allow Washington Redskins' QB Robert Griffin III to get comfortable. He is still a rookie and if they rattle him early in his first Thanksgiving Day game he will crumble. QB Tony Romo has to start playing better. On a short week, RB DeMarco Murray will not be back, so it will once again be up Felix Jones.
Prediction: Romo figures out that winning gets him into the playoffs. Redskins 16, Cowboys 27
New England Patriots at New York Jets
This is a trap game for the New England Patriots. They have won four straight games including an overtime victory against the New York Jets. The Jets are not very good this year. They have run into locker room problems stemming from the media’s relationship with QB Tim Tebow. Coming off a win, I’m making an educated guess that Mark Sanchez will once again start. However, his skills are not good enough to keep up with the legend that is Tom Brady. The Jets will need a huge defensive effort and they must win the field position battle via the special teams.
Prediction: Brady rolls over the Jets like he’s playing the Buffalo Bills. Patriots 38, Jets 13
Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears
This is a divisional game, so anything can happen. The Minnesota Vikings are coming off a bye week. They are rested and might have WR Percy Harvin back. The Vikings are coming into a must win game, but I do not think they have what it takes to beat the Bears. QBJay Cutler will probably be back and that is not a good sign for the Vikings. QB Christian Ponder has struggled as of late and doesn’t look like he has what it takes to lead his team to the playoffs in his second year in the league.
Prediction: The Bears stuff Adrian Peterson and the Vikings backup plan does not work. Vikings 9, Bears 23
Oakland Raiders at Cincinnati Bengals
This is my game of the week. Oakland Raiders QB Carson Palmer will travel to Paul Brown Stadium to take on his former team, the Cincinnati Bengals. The Raiders defense has been so bad the last few weeks, it’s hard to imagine this game being close, but Palmer will make it close. He will come at the Bengals with everything he has and it will be up to Andy Dalton and company to keep up. He will not.
Prediction: Palmer drops 400 yards passing on his former team. Raiders 34, Bengals 31
Pittsburgh Steelers at Cleveland Browns
The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off a loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The Browns lost a heartbreaker in Dallas. The Steelers defense is good enough to win the game, but is backup QB Byron Leftwich good enough to not lose? The Browns defense did a great job against the Cowboys, however, the Steelers did a better job against the Ravens offense.
Prediction: Defense wins this game. Steelers 27, Browns 16
Buffalo Bills at Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts were blown out in their last appearance against the Patriots. Well, at least on the scoreboard. The Bills beat a bipolar Miami Dolphins team on Thursday Night Football. The Colt can not afford to lose this game, but they will if Andrew Luck has a repeat performance of last Sunday. Luck is a rookie, but he has overcome enough adversity to bounce back.
Prediction: Bills RB C.J. Spiller has a great game, but Colts WR Reggie Wayne plays just a little better. Bills 30, Colts 37
Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs
This is my blow out of the week. The Denver Broncos come into this game having won 5 straight games. Looking at the Broncos’ schedule, there is no reason to think they can’t go 12-4 in QB Peyton Manning’s first season back from injury. The Kansas City Chiefs are just really bad. They are going to lose. This has been a rough season for the Chiefs, I wouldn't be surprised to see them completely clean house at the end of week 17.
Prediction: The Chiefs are gonna have a bad time. Broncos 35, Chiefs 6
Seattle Seahawks at Miami Dolphins
This is going to be a great game. The Seattle Seahawks are coming off two straight home wins, but they will travel this week to take on the Dolphins. The difference between Seahawks’ QB Russell Wilson’s road and home play is night and day. However, the young QB has grown into a top 15 quarterback in his rookie season. His road woes will end this week against the Dolphins. QB Ryan Tannehill is also a rookie, however he is going against one of the best secondaries in the NFL. If the Dolphins can’t get RB Reggie Bush going this one could get out of hand in a hurry.
Prediction: The Seahawks defense comes away with 4 turnovers. Seahawks 27, Dolphins 10
Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
This is going to be my upset of the week. The Atlanta Falcons will travel to Raymond James Stadium to take on the Buccaneers. QB Matt Ryan is coming off a game in which he threw a career high five interceptions. That will not happen again. However, there is no reason to think he will not throw at least one or two. It will be up to the combination of Doug Martin and Josh Freeman if they want to make this upset prediction come true.
Prediction: Martin and Freeman get the job done. Falcons 24, Buccaneers 27
Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars
The Tennessee Titans are coming off their bye week. The Jaguars barely squeezed out their 9th loss of the season. This could be a game where Titans RB Chris Johnson goes absolutely crazy. The Jaguars’ defense was hit for over 500 yards passing last week, so I’m sure that will be the focus this week. What is the problem with bad teams? They cannot make the correct adjustments from week to week to be competitive.
Prediction: (very bold) Johnson Breaks an NFL record. Titans 28, Jaguars 16
Baltimore Ravens at San Diego Chargers
The San Diego Chargers are not having a great year. Bad coaching, worse play, and bad luck have set them up with a 4-6 record with a very outside shot at making the playoffs. The Chargers, however, can still win games which could be a problem for the Ravens if there are too many self imposed mistakes. Philip Rivers is going to compete in every game, but this one is going to be out of his reach.
Prediction: Baltimore is too much all the time. Ravens 30, Chargers 20
St. Louis Rams at Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals have lost 6 in a row. The good news? They will finally get a break in their ridiculously tough schedule at home against the St. Louis Rams. The Cardinals will get RB Beanie Wells back from injured reserve. He will give the Cardinals a much needed boost in their short run game. The Rams lost pretty badly to the Jets. Steven Jackson will need to have a good game against a defense that had 5 interceptions last week. If not, QB Sam Bradford will have to throw into one of the best secondaries in the league. I guess that can be said about any NFC West team with exception of the Rams.
Prediction: Arizona gets out of their current funk. Cardinals 24, Rams 13
San Francisco 49ers at New Orleans Saints
New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees is on a mission. He has the Saints at 5-5 after starting the season with a 1-5 record. His arm may be blessed by the gods. The San Francisco 49ers secondary is 3rd in the league. It will be a challenge for Brees to run his pass first style. Alex Smith will be back for the 49ers, but he will have a terrible game which will spark a QB controversy in San Francisco. This is not an upset, just a good team beating another good team.
Prediction: Brees forgets that the San Francisco defense is supposed to be “good”. 49ers 20, Saints 31
Green Bay Packers at New York Giants
Packers are hitting their stride. They have won five games in a row and six out of their last seven since a controversial loss in Seattle. However, the New York Giants have lost two games in a row and are almost in a must win situation. QB Eli Manning plays his best when his back is against a wall. There is still some room between the wall and Eli’s back, so I think his effort will come up short.
Prediction: There will be a distinct smell of cheese in New York. Packers 37, Giants 20
Carolina Panthers at Philadelphia Eagles
Well, this is a Monday night matchup that we all don’t have to be afraid to not watch. There are zero playoff implications and both teams are well below 500. The Philadelphia Eagles are not going to be very exciting to watch, and Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton is having a terrible sophomore year going into the game with a QB rating of 79. I for one will not tune in to watch this game. I expect most of America to follow my example.
Prediction: Newton finally plays the game to win. Panthers 24, Eagles 20
