New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is having another phenomenal season for the team. Brees already set the record for consecutive games with a touchdown pass with 48 games and has since extended his record to 53 games. Also, Brees is still putting high numbers in the new found balanced offensive attack of the Saints.
Brees has thrown for 3,066 yards and 28 touchdowns off of 250 attempts this season. Brees’ 3,066 yards is the second highest behind only Atlanta Falcons’ quarterback Matt Ryan who has thrown for 3,072 yards so far this season. However, his 28 touchdowns lead the league and he is showing yet again why he is one of the elite quarterbacks in the NFL.
For his play this season Brees should definitely be in the MVP talk and depending on how the Saints finish the season he deserves to win the MVP. The Saints started the season 0-4 but since then have rallied their way back to .500 and are now 5-5. Brees kept the Saints in every game and almost won a few games single-handedly.
Now the Saints are back in the thick of things and are contending for a playoff spot. If Brees continue to play at the level he is playing at right now there is no doubt in my mind that the Saints will make the playoffs. The 100 million dollar man has shown that he has what it takes to lead his team and really is the heart and soul of New Orleans.
The Saints have dealt with so much adversity during the off-season and it has carried over into the regular season. However, Brees and the Saints did not lie down and take it, but instead have rallied their way back and have come together as a team.
The Saints’ success starts with their leader Brees and if the MVP is based off of statistics as well as leadership I would say Brees is the most deserving of anyone. We will see how the rest of the season shakes out for the Saints but one thing is for sure, Brees definitely deserves to be a top candidate for MVP this season.
