New York Giants Start Six Game Stretch With Big Win
The New York Giants brought themselves right back into the discussion among the top teams in the NFL with their 38-10 over the Green Bay Packers last night. This is the kind of team they can be when they are clicking on all cylinders and showed why they are indeed capable of repeating. What’s maddening about this team is that they can play a game like they did last night and then go out and put in a dud of a performance next week. Let’s take a look at a couple of things that stood out.
Safety Cubed: The three safety look is going to be a huge key for the Giants down the stretch. A healthy Kenny Phillips came back and enabled Antrel Rolle to move down to the slot to cover Randall Cobb. Rolle completely shut down Cobb to the point where they tried to move him outside and they couldn’t get him going. Phillips left with an injury, however he said if the game was closer, he could have come back in.
Sack Party: Osi Umenyiora didn’t think the team would have a “sack party”. Oops. The Giants sacked Aaron Rodgers five times and made life miserable for him in the pocket all evening. When the defensive line plays like this, the Giants can beat anyone
Getting Offensive: The Giants offense looked better. There were some play calls that left you scratching your head, however, they were balanced all night, something they absolutely need to be more moving forward. It will be harder without Andre Brown who broke his fibula, but here’s the opportunity that David Wilson has been hoping for. Congrats to Eli Manning for being the career leader in touchdown passes for the Giants. It seemed like the week off helped him and the Giants.
