Predicting Week 13 NFL Action

Week 13
Matthew-Emmons-US-PRESSWIRE

Week 12 is in the books and it time for week 13 football. The NFC playoff picture is getting clearer and clearer each week. There is basically one spot left for the Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I give the edge to the Seahawks because they hold the tiebreaker over the Vikings.

The AFC is basically in the same position. The final playoff spot is held by the Pittsburgh Steelers. They are realistically only competing with the Cincinnati Bengals. The Miami Dolphins are there, but they lack the consistency most people would like to see from a playoff team. Plus, they have the New England Patriots this weekend and more times than not, that game will result in a loss. As the playoff picture gets clearer, another curious race I’d like to look at is offensive rookie of the Year

At first glance, it’s Robert Griffin III, he is more athletic and clearly is the biggest playmaker, but what about the other two rookie quarterbacks? Andrew Luck seems to be the best pure passer of his class. He has a team that picked him first in the NFL draft as the front runner for the wild card race. However, over the past six weeks Russell Wilson has shoved himself into the picture. He has thrown more touchdowns than both Luck and Griffin III. In my opinion, Wilson and Griffin III are the frontrunners. The last five games will tell the tale.

The race for the playoffs is heating up. Who will have the biggest blowout, upset, and game of the week? All of these questions I aim to answer in my week 13 NFL predictions, enjoy.

New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons

Saints and Falcons
Brett-Davis-US-PRESSWIRE

Finally a Thursday night game we can all be excited to watch. In this matchup we will have two powerhouse offenses going head to head. The New Orleans Saints are led by QB Drew Brees and the Atlanta Falcons are led by a younger Matt Ryan. Brees got the best of the Falcons in their last matchup, but he was playing at home. He won’t have the advantage, but I still think he can sweep the Falcons with his glorious throwing arm.

Prediction: Saints defense does some work. Saints 31, Falcons 27

Jacksonville Jaguars at Buffalo Bills

Jaguars and Bills
Richard-Mackson-US-PRESSWIRE

If you don’t like defense, this is the game for you. The Jacksonville Jaguars are near the bottom of the NFL in almost every statistical category, and the Buffalo Bills rushing defense is 31st in the league. Both of these teams are out of the playoff picture entirely, but they want to prove they can compete before the season is over. Chad Henne will start for the Jaguars and Ryan Fitzpatrick for the Bills. I have a feeling whoever has the most rushing yards will win this game.

Prediction: The Bills ground game tears the Jaguars up. Jaguars 20, Bills 34

Seattle Seahawks at Chicago Bears

Russell and Jay
Jerry-Lai-US-PRESSWIRE

This is my game of the week. The Chicago Bears have looked like a Super Bowl team for most of the season, but they do have some weak points. The Seahawks have not played well on the road, in fact, terrible. However, they haven't been blown out once this season. The starting corner backs for the Seahawks will play in this game despite their looming suspension. That could be the difference. They are going to want to come out and play like it’s their last game of the season, well, because it could be.

Prediction: Richard Sherman makes Jay Cutler cry. Seahawks 24, Bears 23

San Francisco 49ers at St. Louis Rams

Rams
Kyle-Terada-US-PRESSWIRE

Nobody expects this to be a game after the St. Louis Rams embarrassed the San Francisco 49ers with a tie just a few short weeks ago. The 49ers will come out of the gates looking to put the Rams out of their misery. Jeff Fisher has put together a respectable team in his first year, but he does not have the personnel to compete. The only way the Rams win this game is if Fisher coaches the 49ers to death. He can, but I’m going to lean on the side of “not gonna happen”.

Prediction: QB Colin Kaepernick plays like a rookie, but RB Frank Gore bails him out.

New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins

Tommy
David-Butler-II-US-PRESSWIRE

The Dolphins are coming off a pretty amazing comeback victory against the Seahawks. The Patriots are once again having a pretty amazing season. They are 8-3 and just put a whoopin’ on the Jets. The only weakness the Patriots seem to have is giving up loads of passing yards each game. Tom Brady, of course, is the ultimate equalizer. This team could be last in every defensive category, but as long as they have Brady, other teams are not going to have a good time.

Prediction: Brady catches his reflection in a helmet, gets distracted, still throws a touchdown. Patriots 38, Dolphins 23

7 of 17

Arizona Cardinals at New York Jets

Cardinals
Debby-Wong-US-PRESSWIRE

This could be a game of most pathetic quarterbacks in the league. The New York Jets have Mark Sanchez and the Arizona Cardinals will start their rookie Ryan Lindley for the second straight game. The Cardinals have lost seven straight games and currently have the same 4-7 record as the Jets. RB Beanie Wells returned last week for the Cardinals and was able to make an impact in his first game back. Arizona is hoping for a repeat performance. The Jets need to get their run game going to take some pressure off Sanchez. As soon as he feels the heat he crumbles.

Prediction: The Cardinals lose their eighth straight game. Cardinals 17, Jets 24

8 of 17

Indianapolis Colts at Detroit Lions

Colts
Brian-Spurlock-US-PRESSWIRE

This is upset of the week based on records alone. Miraculously the Indianapolis Colts are 7-4 and in the playoff picture. The Detroit Lions are 4-7 and are not. Most people predicted their records to be flipped at this point in the season. QB Andrew Luck has been impressive for most of the year, but Lions will be looking for blood after a controversial loss to the Houston Texans. The Colts will be looking to get some balance in their offense. The Lions are going to throw the ball 50 times and hope QB Matthew Stafford doesn’t make too many mistakes.

Prediction: Ndamukong Suh avoids any kicks to the groin and comes up with two huge sacks. Colts 24, Lions 30

9 of 17

Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers

Vikings
Bruce-Kluckhohn-US-PRESSWIRE

This is my blow out of the week. If this game is not in Green Bay the Vikings would have a chance. Unfortunately for the Vikings, it is, they will be beat, and it won’t be fun. The Green Bay Packers are coming off an embarrassing lopsided loss to the New York Giants. Aaron Rodgers will be looking to prove he has the necessary skills to dominate the playoffs. The Vikings will soon find out that he does.

Prediction: The Vikings are gonna have a bad time. Vikings 10, Packers 38

10 of 17

Houston Texans at Tennessee Titans

matt on jake
Jerome-Miron-US-PRESSWIRE

The Texans barely won on Thanksgiving. The Tennessee Titans lost to the Jaguars. The Texans are coming off their worst defensive efforts of the year giving up almost 1,000 yards in two games. The game plan for the defense this week will be to stop RB Chris Johnson. If they can do that, it will be up to the borderline capable hands of QB Jake Locker. The Texans want to play defense and show people they are not already too tired down the stretch.

Predication: The Titans keep up, but fall behind in the fourth quarter. Texans 27, Titans 17

11 of 17

Carolina Panthers at Kansas City Chiefs

Cam Bam Superman
Howard-Smith-US-PRESSWIRE

The Carolina Panthers are having a disappointing season. The Kansas City Chiefs season is a lot worse than that. Panthers QB Cam Newton had a game worth talking about for the first time in a while. The Chiefs have won one game this season and are looking forward to the number one pick in the NFL Draft. RB Jamaal Charles is a wasted talent on a team that refuses to use him consistently

Prediction: Newton plays the role of Superman perfectly two weeks in a row. Panthers 34, Chiefs 21

12 of 17

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Denver Broncos

Broncos and Buccaneers
John-Rieger-US-PRESSWIRE

I believe the Buccaneers could make this a game. However, I have a blind spot when it comes to rooting against Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning. The Buccaneers have been impressive offensively as of late, but their effort is going to come up short this week, similar to last week against the Falcons.

Prediction: The Broncos’ defense does most of the work in a game that could have been close. Buccaneers 13, Broncos 27

13 of 17

Cleveland Browns at Oakland Raiders

Browns
Andrew-Weber-US-PRESSWIRE

The Oakland Raiders finally have a good chance to win a game, but it will be up to Carson Palmer. Their defense has been horrible and Palmer is pretty tired of playing with a bunch of amateurs. The Cleveland Browns are a 500 football team, at least in the past six games, but they are still lacking the talent that makes a team good, or even average. This is going to be a good matchup, but the difference will come down to the quarterback.

Prediction: If Palmer isn’t competing at halftime, we will see an appearance from Terrelle Pryor. Browns 16, Raiders 27

14 of 17

Cincinnati Bengals at San Diego Chargers

Bengals
Frank-Victores-US-PRESSWIRE

The San Diego Chargers cannot seem to catch a break this year. They find new and interesting ways to lose each week. The Bengals just blew out the Raiders. QB Andy Dalton is having a repeat performance of his unexpected year in 2011. The Chargers need to find a way to get their run game going or they will lose this game. If they try to get in a shootout with Cincinnati they will lose. San Diego needs to control the clock and win the field position battle.

Prediction: QB Philip Rivers finds a way to beat the red headed stepchild. Bengals 24, Chargers 34

15 of 17

Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore Ravens

Steelers
Geoff-Burke-US-PRESSWIRE

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger picked a bad time to get injured. His Steelers have lost back to back games for the first time in multiple seasons. The Baltimore Ravens are coming off an improbable win against the Chargers. They will be looking to get Ray Rice going early, and keep him going. If they pass, they will open themselves up to the possibility of making more mistakes. The Ravens need to let probable starting QB Charlie Batch make the mistakes.

Prediction: If Roethlisberger plays the Steelers will win, if not, they will lose. Steelers 13, Ravens 20

16 of 17

Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys
Matthew-Emmons-US-PRESSWIRE

I do not care what anybody thinks, Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick gives his team the best chance to win. QB Nick Foles is the worst thing since Ryan Leaf with a ball in his hands. The Dallas Cowboys need to get their running back to return to the lineup. DeMarco Murray’s injury could be one of the reasons the Cowboys have struggled so much this season. However, the biggest reason is Tony Romo and his tendency to throw to the other team.

Prediction: Similar to the Steelers, if Vick starts they will have chance to win, if not, they will definitely lose. Eagles 13, Cowboys 28

17 of 17

New York Giants at Washington Redskins

Giants
James-Lang-US-PRESSWIRE

In their last meeting the New York Giants put the Washington Redskins' Rookie Robert Griffin III in his place. At this point in the season, Giants QB Eli Manning’s “time to play football” switch turns on and he goes into the playoffs as a team to fear. Manning knows he doesn’t have to play out of his mind to win, but he does have to show up, unlike the weeks leading up to his thrashing of the Packers. This is a must win game for the Redskins, but a rookie with a team on his shoulders is a lot of weight to bare. I just don’t think his legs can hold up.

Prediction: The Redskins cannot win a “must win” game. Giants 38, Redskins 20
