Top 5 Most Disappointing NFL Teams Through NFL Week 12
Top 5 Most Disappointing Teams In The NFL
As the NFL regular season begins to wind down a lot of teams are in the playoff hunt and nothing will be certain until the end of the regular season. With that in mind there have also been a lot of teams that have not met expectations and teams that will just come up short making the playoffs.
I guess you could say these types of teams have been the most disappointing teams in the NFL. There were teams that were assembled to contend and others who are usually regular contenders have fallen off a little bit this season. I know that there have been many frustrated fans and players this season as well as certain teams just cannot seem to get it together.
As a result there will definitely be a lot of player movement in the off-season and I would even expect some of the coaches to be fired after the season is over. Some teams that come to mind that have been disappointing would be the Cleveland Browns and the Arizona Cardinals.
The Browns have always been notoriously bad but as of late they have actually put up a fight and have been staying in games. The Cardinals started the season out strong and have since been losing a lot of games. However, much like the Browns the Cardinals have been putting up a fight and they compete every day.
For these reasons I do not think the Browns or the Cardinals are in the top five most disappointing teams in the NFL. My choices might surprise some of you but I have good reasons for choosing certain teams. With that said let’s take a look at the top five teams I have found to be the most disappointing in the NFL through week 12.
5. Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions come in at number five for the most disappointing teams in the NFL. The Lions are 4-7 at the moment and at the bottom of the NFC North. The Lions have been very disappointing as of late as they are on a three-game losing streak. Furthermore, the three games were all huge games for the Lions that they desperately needed to win. The Lions lost to divisional rivals Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers before losing a heart-breaker to the Houston Texans on Thanksgiving.
This Lions team looked poised to make another playoff run after losing in the first round to the New Orleans Saints in last season’s playoffs. It seems that the Lions have taken one step forward last season only to take two steps back this season. As a whole the team is still very immature and I think Jim Schwartz’s time in Detroit might be coming to an end soon. The Lions will not be making the postseason this year because they have been the worst team in a very strong division. At this point the Lions should look ahead to the draft and explore different coaching options.
4. New York Jets
When super fan, “Fireman Ed” gives up on the New York Jets than it is pretty much over for the team. The Jets have been atrocious this season as they have not been able to find anything offensively and their defense has not done much either. The Jets are 4-7 and can only reminisce about that week one blowout victory against the Buffalo Bills. Unfortunately, the Jets are just coming off a blowout but this time they are on the losing end as the New England Patriots destroyed them on Thanksgiving.
The Jets have no chance of making the playoffs this year and they need to find some consistency with their offense, and I am sorry but Tim Tebow is not the answer. Mark Sanchez might not be the answer for that matter. More importantly the Jets need to invest in some talented wide receivers because Sanchez or the next quarterback needs someone to throw the ball too. The Jets have been very disappointing this season and Rex Ryan might be another coach that is on the hot seat. Next up for the Jets is showdown with the 4-7 Arizona Cardinals and if the Jets lose this game they will be even more disappointing.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars are the second worse team in the AFC and they sure have looked like it. The Jaguars did however snap a seven-game losing streak when they beat the Tennessee Titans in week 12. However, that win is only a reminder that the Jaguars are playing for pride at this point. In their defense they have been without starting quarterback Blaine Gabbert and starting running back Maurice Jones-Drew for a good portion of the season. However, I am not going to let them off of the hook that easily.
This Jaguars team has been so disappointing because they have been a mediocre team all season. The Jaguars are ranked last in the league in yards per game as they only average 286.5 yards. Furthermore, the Jaguars are ranked 31st in rushing yards per game with 81.4 yards. The Jaguars offense is one of the worst in the league and they will not win many games if they cannot score.
Perhaps this team needs to look around for another quarterback because Gabbert is proving that he is too injury prone and not a franchise quarterback. The only thing the Jaguars can look forward to now is that they have won the Jason Babin sweepstakes. Maybe Babin can give this team a sense of relevance as the season’s end approaches.
2. Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are one of the most disappointing teams because they have only gone 1-10 this season and it does not look like they will win another game any time soon. The Chiefs have been the worst team in the NFL and their lone win came against the struggling Saints early on in the season and it is not like they dominated that game. The game went into overtime before the Chiefs could pull out a victory.
Since their first victory the Chiefs have been on an eight-game losing streak but they might have a shot at the number one pick in the draft if they continue their awful play. Also, their fans have been disappointing too as they cheered when quarterback Matt Cassel left a game early in the season with an injury. Their fans gave up on them a long time ago and something must change for this team and it starts with the quarterback. The Chiefs should probably invest in a new quarterback because their offense has been abysmal. Despite having the worst record in the NFL the Chiefs are not even the number one most disappointing team in the NFL, and that belongs to another team that has been more disappointing in my eyes.
1. Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles have been by far the most disappointing team in the NFL through week 12. The Eagles are on a seven-game losing streak, one of the worst in the NFL, and have not won a game since week four against the New York Giants. I do not know what it is with this team but they have not lived up to their expectations whatsoever. This team was assembled to make the playoffs and get to the Super Bowl but it does not look like that will be happening any time soon. The Eagles can forget about the playoffs this season and after missing the playoffs for the second season in a row something needs to change. Furthermore, this “super star” team will likely be broken up and I do not see quarterback Michael Vick or head coach Andy Reid coming back next season.
I know the Eagles have been dealing with injuries to Vick and wide receiver Desean Jackson is on the injured reserve ending his season, but that is no excuse. When teams get set to play the Eagles I know they are already putting a W in the win column for that week. That is one of main problems for the Eagles, it is that they have no swag and nobody fears them. The Eagles have been the most disappointing team in the NFL because everyone was expecting such great things from them, but they just could not get it done.
I think the best thing the Eagles can do is let go of Vick and some other players and just start rebuilding. The Eagles have a great running back in LeSean McCoy and they actually have a nice receiving unit. Until the Eagles get a new quarterback that is not so injury and turnover prone they will not be going anywhere anytime soon. The Eagles should look to the draft and possibly draft a new quarterback because Nick Foles is not getting it done either.
In my opinion there has not been a more disappointing team than the Eagles and unless they make some dramatic changes.
