Any Story About Kansas City Chiefs Linebacker Jovan Belcher Is Meaningless

By now I’m sure you’ve heard about the tragedy that occurred today when Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend and then fled, only to kill himself at the Chiefs practice facility near Arrowhead Stadium.

I’ve stayed away from writing about it because frankly the story has way too many people reporting or writing about it as it is, what could I possibly add?

Actually not much and I think that’s my point. There will be tons of stories about how or why all of this happened, and we’ll probably hear all about the type of person that Belcher was. We’ll also hear strong opinions why the Chiefs shouldn’t host the Carolina Panthers tomorrow. None of that matters now.

I’m not saying that anyone who writes about this story is wrong; it’s just my opinion that all of those discussions don’t matter. Two people are still gone at much too young of an age and a three month old baby is now missing her parents. Nothing can take any of that back now.

The events that led up to this tragedy are irrelevant, so is the game tomorrow. When something like this occurs there’s always questions and everyone wants to know why it happened? It’s perfectly natural to ask but all of the answers and all the games in the world can’t bring either person back.

So when writing or reading anything to do with today’s horrific events, just know that someone has just lost a mother, a father, a daughter, a son a friend and even a teammate. Nothing can bring them back now and that’s the saddest part of it all.

Thoughts and prayers go out to all the families and friends involved.
