Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald says the team is “desperate” for a win. This is not a surprising statement considering the Cardinals have lost seven games in a row, and are likely to lose an eighth on the road this weekend to the New York Jets. Fitzgerald says the team is drowning, but they are doing everything they can to get to the top for some air.
The Cardinals had an unexpected 4-0 start, but these seven losses are even more strange. The team currently has the second-longest losing streak in the NFL and are dead last in the NFC West. The Cardinals are in a tough division this year. Their only divisional win was against the Seattle Seahawks in week one.
One Cardinals player, Daryl Washington, refuses to use the word “desperate”, but he agrees with Fitzgerald. He says if there was another word for it, he’d use it because that’s what it is. Washington speaks the truth – the Cardinals have fallen a long way since their week-two victory over the New England Patriots. At the moment, there are no answers for this team. Injuries are piling up. The Cardinals are waiting for somebody to step up.
Who will it be?
Right now, it’s not about who can it be. It’s about who it needs to be. QB Ryan Lindley needs to step up and show the organization and fans that this team has a future. If he can’t show it by the end of the year the Cardinals will have no choice but to go out and get a game-changer. Fitzgerald was right, the Cardinals are desperate, but it’s not just the players.
It the fans and the organization as a whole.
