It’s Time to Consider Denver Broncos’ Demaryius Thomas an Elite NFL Receiver
Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas has been phenomenal this season partly because of newly acquired QB Peyton Manning, but he’s also a very talented receiver who didn’t have a very good QB throwing to him in his first two seasons. Is it just the quarterback that is throwing him the ball or is it time to give this guy props and consider him an elite NFL receiver?
I say it’s both. Of course Manning can make any good receiver great, but Thomas could be great with any above average QB but Manning makes him elite. Every elite NFL receiver has at least an above-average QB throwing him the ball, so Thomas is right up there with the best of them.
Thomas put up quality numbers with Tim Tebow as his quarterback last season in an offense that didn’t throw very often and Thomas didn’t even play a full season.
With Manning under center, Thomas can now live up to his potential. He has 69 receptions, 1,114 yards and eight touchdowns in 12 games this season. If Thomas can keep on this pace, he should be able to put up numbers close to 92 receptions, 1,500 yards and 12 touchdowns, which would be at least top five receiver numbers in the NFL this year.
Both Manning and Thomas have made it clear that just a 1,000-yard season and a few great games is not their goal. They don’t want to “just be great,” they want to be the best in the league for the next four to five years and they very well could be.
Thomas is an elite receiver and if he isn’t yet recognized as such, it’s only be a matter of time. Just imagine how good he will be after he works with Manning in another offseason.
