As a team, the New Orleans Saints have dropped quite a few passes this season, but there is no need for concern. Sure, the Saints have dropped 27 passes this season, but they are only tied for fifth worse in the NFL. There were a few passes this season that could have been huge for the Saints if they were caught. One incident that comes to mind is the dropped pass by Lance Moore in the end zone in last week’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
Furthermore, tight end Jimmy Graham is tied for most drop passes in the NFL with nine total this season. Despite Graham leading the NFL in dropped passes and the Saints being one of the top teams in dropped passes, there is no need for concern for the Saints.
The Saints have one of the most dynamic offenses in the NFL and one of the best quarterbacks in Drew Brees. The Saints love to pass the ball and Brees will attempt throws most quarterbacks would not even risk to make. Another interesting stat is that the Saints have made 305 receptions, which is the fifth best in the NFL.
So even though the Saints have dropped 27 passes this season they have caught more passes than most of the teams in the NFL. It comes down to a simple equation for the Saints: they throw the ball more so in turn the team is bound to have more dropped passes. If I were the Saints, I would not be concerned with the dropped passes because the receivers are catching more passes and Brees leads the NFL in touchdown passes with 31 this season.
The Saints still have one of the best offenses in the NFL and the drop passes are only a small area that the team needs to work on. Brees can make any throw and the receivers are talented enough to make the catch and the numbers show us that they have the majority of the time.
