Percy Harvin Placed on Injured Reserve, Done for Season

The news out of Minneapolis is not good as the Minnesota Vikings placed wide receiver Percy Harvin on injured reserve Wednesday.

This move is somewhat unexpected, but as it turns out, the injury was worse than everyone had thought all along. Earlier in the week reports started to surface that Harvin had actually suffered a complete ligament tear in his ankle, a much more serious diagnosis than previously given.

Did the Vikings know how bad it was all along? It seems they may have. Leslie Frazier made this comment Wednesday before the announcement, and still didn’t really acknowledge any details about the injury:

“I can’t go into detail about the injury,” Frazier said. “I know there have been reports about the extent of the injury. He’s done pretty much what the trainers have asked him to do, but he won’t be available today. I know he wants to win like we all do, and I’m sure he’s doing everything he can to help our football team. We’ll see.”

The normal timeline for recovery from an injury like Harvin’s is usually four to six weeks, so it looks like this is a pretty serious tear. It seems the team had hopes he could have made it back in three to four weeks, but he just wasn’t making the necessary progress.

Now fans have to wonder if the team will go out and sign a free agent wide receiver. Braylon Edwards was just released, and could at least be a warm body to throw in the mix.

Minnesota needs help desperately at wide out, and without Harvin the rest of the way, the playoffs are seeming more and more like a longshot.
