The Oakland Raiders may not have a second round pick in this year’s NFL draft, but they can make a big splash in third round by drafting none other than the Honey Badger himself, Tyrann Mathieu.

Mathieu will be probably the biggest eye-opener past the first-round of the draft, because he has the chance to be a steal and possible starter going into his rookie year.

Assuming nothing will happen to stop the Mathieu from entering the draft, the Raiders need to weigh in, and consider drafting this talented athlete. The Raiders second pick will be in the third round, it will be interesting to see (pending on what they do in Free Agency) if they are willing to pull the trigger on the LSU defense man.

Mathieu would add a new dynamic to the secondary, and whoever drafts him needs to sign as soon as possible to get him into camp are start getting back to the game of football. The Raiders desperately need help all throughout there defense, and the way they can get away with this pick is if they draft a defensive tackle in the top ten of the draft.

If Mathieu’s stock rises beyond the third round, the Raiders should fold and not even think twice of trading up for him. The path that the Raiders are going down, maybe the smartest thing to do for the team is to trade down for more picks in the second and third round. Mathieu is too big of a reach and not enough to make the Raiders better in the secondary.

Raiders prospect grade: C+
