Week 14 NFL Picks
Week 14 NFL Picks
The football season has hit that point where it is down to the nitty grity and the playoff races are shaping up. Or are they? Things may be getting later in the season but it doesn’t mean that we have any better idea of who is making the playoffs. Things may have gotten even murkier with last week’s results. So with just 4 games left some games this week may have team’s seasons riding on the outcome. There are only 6 divisional games this week and plenty of other great matchups on the schedule that may seal some team’s playoff fate.
The week kicks off on Thursday in Oakland where the struggling Raiders host the division winning Denver Broncos. In Cincinnati, the Bengals welcome the Dallas Cowboys in a very important game with the playoffs in sight for both teams. Other interesting games include the Chicago Bears heading into Minnesota to take on the unstoppable Adrian Peterson and the Vikings. More divisional matchups include the Packers hosting the Lions on Sunday night and the Panthers hosting the 11-1 Atlanta Falcons. A few of the more interesting games include the Ravens heading to Washington D.C. to take on the hot Redskins and the Giants hosting the desperate Saints. The week finishes with the Houston Texans heading to New England to play the Patriots on Monday night in a game that might just tell us how good both teams are.
So grab your favorite beverage and some buffalo wings because I’m about to pick all the games in this week’s picks. *I went 11-5 last week, and I'm looking to do even better this week.
The week kicks off in Oakland and the Raiders are a mess right now. They don’t do much right but sometimes they manage to put up a fight at home and I think they do that with the Denver Broncos coming into town. Of course, I’m guessing it isn’t enough and I think the Broncos win, just not as easily as some might think. Sounds crazy I know…Denver wins.
The inconsistent Cowboys have new life after this week and they travel to the Cincinnati to play the Bengals, who are playing well right now. Both teams need the win to continue on the playoff path but only one team will get it. It’s a very difficult game to pick since the Bengals are due for a letdown and the Cowboys seem to play better on the road. In the end, the team who makes the less amount of mistake will win and it usually isn’t the Cowboys. Bengals win.
The Bills welcome the St. Louis rams on Sunday and both teams are coming off of wins. The Rams beat the Niners in overtime and the Bills handled the Jags easily. I like the Rams to make a push towards the end of the year and be a team to be reckoned with next year. Rams win.
The Carolina Panthers get their chance at revenge against the Atlanta Falcons coming to town. The Falcons pulled out a miracle win last time they played in Atlanta and the Panthers can prove that game wasn’t a fluke by playing well again this weekend. The Falcons will have had the extra time to prepare after playing last Thursday and I like the Falcons to win again this time, just a little easier. Atlanta wins.
The Cleveland Browns welcome the Kansas City Chiefs to town carrying a two game winning streak and they have a chance to get real hot right now. The Browns should be able to run the ball right at the Chiefs defense and they also have the defense to slow Jamaal Charles. I like the Browns to win their third straight game.
In Indianapolis, the Colts welcome the Tennessee Titans and Chris Johnson to town after a huge comeback win in Detroit last week. Andrew Luck should be able to throw at will on the Titans and move the ball easily. The key to the game will be how well the Colts defense can stop the running game with Chris Johnson. I think the Colts find a way, again, to win a close game. Colts win.
In what will be a very intriguing game now, the New York Jets travel to Jacksonville to play the Jaguars. Among the interesting questions are who will be the Jets quarterback and will Tim Tebow be in uniform? The Jags lifted the black tarps for Tebow’s reunion and he might not even play, how crazy is that? I think the Jets win the game no matter who starts because I don’t think the Jags offense can best the Jets D. Jets win.
The Vikings host the Chicago Bears on Sunday and the Bears will be without Brian Urlacher and maybe a few other key Chicago defenders, not great news when you’re trying to stop All Day Adrian. It still doesn’t mean Christian Ponder will be able to beat the Bears with his arm, Bears win.
The Pittsburgh Steelers host the San Diego Chargers on Sunday and the teams are heading into opposite directions. The Steelers are coming off of a big win in Baltimore and the Chargers can’t seem to buy a win. Not much to think about here, the Steelers win.
The Eagles season is in turmoil and they head to Tampa to play the Buccaneers, who are coming off a tough trip to Denver. Bryce Brown will be going up against the best rush defense in the NFL and Doug Martin will be looking to get back into the groove against the Eagles poor rush defense. The Bucs are one of the toughest teams in the NFL and the Eagles one of the softest, it’s a tough game and the Bucs will win.
The two teams who are going to be battling for the belt this weekend in Washington are going in opposite directions. The ravens have been struggling and the Redskins soaring. The ‘Skins run the ball with the best of them, while the Ravens struggle to stop it. The Redskins are coming off of a tough stretch of divisional games and I think they are due for a letdown. Ravens win and get back on track.
The 49ers are looking to get back to their winning ways and it’s something they seem to have no problems doing when they play anyone but the St. Louis Rams. The Dolphins lost at home to the Patriots and travel cross country to take on a mad Niners team. San Fran wins this one easily.
The Giants welcome the Saints to town and this matchup has been very on-sided the past few meetings but those were all in New Orleans. This game is in the new Metlife Stadium and the Giants seem to play their best when they’re doubted. I like the Giants in a high scoring game, Giants win.
The Arizona Cardinals and their awful offense travel to Seattle where the Seahawks return from a big road win in Chicago. I’m not sure how the Cards will be able to move the ball against those Seahawks corners and Seattle plays well at home. Look for the Seahawks rushing game to pound the Cards in route to the win, Seattle gets the victory.
On Sunday night, the Packers and their struggling offense welcome the division rival Lions to Lambeau Field. The Lions have been crushed by injuries the past few weeks, especially at wide receiver so I don’t know how they will keep up scoring against Aaron Rodgers and the Pack. Green Bay wins.
On Monday night we get the best game of the week, the Houston Texans head to New England and battle the Patriots. The Pats are riding high right now and the Texans have been riding high all season. Houston’s defense is a little banged up and Tom Brady may exploit the secondary but Matt Schaub can do the same to the Pats. New England usually wins these big games at home on Monday nights and I see that happening again. New England wins a close game.
