The tragedy of what happened almost a week ago with Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins has not been forgotten. As the community tries to move on, the Chiefs organization is also making sure Zoey Belcher, the three-month-old daughter who lost both her parents in the tragedy will not be forgotten either.
Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, along with coaches, staff members, the players and their families, set up a trust fund in Zoey Belcher’s name today. Here is the press release issued by the team:
“As we continue to struggle with the emotional pain from the tragedy, the Chiefs family is focused on helping 3-month-old Zoey Michelle Belcher as she faces the challenge of growing up without the support of her parents. Zoey will always be a part of the Chiefs family, and we hope that this trust will help to ensure she has the resources necessary as she grows up.”
As Hunt says, it is a wonderful way to make sure that Zoey Belcher has everything she needs to have a great life moving forward. The Chiefs organization should be applauded for their efforts in regards to Belcher’s future.
Nothing can bring back her parents or cure the sadness of knowing that she’ll never really know who her real parents were, but this is great news for an innocent child who had nothing to do with the events that occurred on Dec. 1. Zoey is a victim of what happened on that fateful day and she deserves to lead a healthy, fulfilling life.
Let’s hope the trust ensures a wonderful future for Zoey Belcher.
