Dallas Cowboys Defensive Tackle Josh Brent’s Bail Set At $500,000

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

While the Dallas Cowboys were getting a hard fought win against the Cincinnati Bengals, teammate Josh Brent’s bail was set at $500,000 back home in Texas. Brent’s attorney, George Milner, called the bond amount “excessive” but Irving police said Brent was free after making bail Sunday evening.

The incident in which Brent drove drunk, flipped his car and killed teammate Jerry Brown is a very sad story. It’s also a story that should be told over and over again as a reminder of what can happen when you drink and drive. Brent can never take back what happened and as he said in his statement last night, he’s going to have to live with the guilt that he killed a good friend for the rest of his life.

According to Domingo Ramirez Jr. of the dallasnews.com, the investigation of what happened will also include the club that Brent attended on Friday night. The club Privae Dallas is being investigated by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission in order to find out what occurred on that fateful night.

“We’re establishing where they had been and if they were sold alcohol while they were drunk,” said TABC spokeswoman Carolyn Beck. She also mentioned the investigation which will include bartenders, patrons and surveillance cameras could take months.

In other words, things are not even close to being over for Brent. These are just a few of the steps being taken to find out what happened in the early hours on Saturday morning with Brent and his friend Jerry Brown.

Unfortunately, the investigation can’t bring Brown back and that’s the saddest part of it all.
