Tim Tebow Active, Greg McElroy Inactive for New York Jets in Their Week 14 Game
The Jets have announced that third-string quarterback Greg McElroy, the hero in the Jets’ comeback victory last week, will be a healthy inactive this week, which means he’s not eligible to play if a quarterback change is needed.
That means that Tim Tebow, the enigmatic aspiring quarterback, will be in uniform as the backup quarterback this week, as the Jets play in Tebow’s hometown of Jacksonville. Maybe that flash mob won’t be a waste of time after all.
One week after starting quarterback Mark Sanchez was benched midgame in favor of McElroy, head coach Rex Ryan named Sanchez his starter for this week’s game, but presumably on a short leash if he continues to struggle.
That said, it’s a very curious move to make McElroy inactive. McElroy may be the best pure passer on the team.
If Sanchez gets benched this time, it will be the hometown hero Tebow who will relieve him. Think the Jaguars fans who show up will be excited to see that? I’m sure Jags owner Shahid Khan certainly wouldn’t mind the frenzy.
The Jaguars may be 2-10 on the season, but they’ve played much better since making their quarterback change, going from Blaine Gabbert (benched, then injured) to Chad Henne. They are not to be taken lightly.
