NFL Rumors: Dallas Cowboys' Dez Bryant Out For Season With Torn Finger Ligament

It looks like #Dezember will be coming to an end early this year for the Dallas Cowboys as there are reports that wide receiver Dez Bryant will be lost for the season because of an injured finger he suffered against the Cincinnati Bengals. The injury occurred a few plays before his 27-yard touchdown catch.

If you aren’t familiar with the twitter universe or if you hadn’t heard recently, the play of Dez Bryant has sparked a movement to call the month of December, Dezember in honor of Dez Bryant.

Multiple sources are reporting that Bryant will likely need surgery on the finger, which would sideline him for the rest of the season. Head coach Jason Garrett has said Bryant’s return is 50-50 and he will see a hand specialist before any decision is made but it doesn’t look good.

This is not the kind of news the Dallas Cowboys need. They already have placed five players on season ending injured reserve and adding a player who has been among the best at his position in the NFL this year is a crushing blow. Bryant has caught 75 passes and leads the Cowboys in receiving yards with 1,028, as well as touchdowns with nine. It is Bryant’s first 1,000 yard receiving season.

If Bryant can’t finish the season, the Cowboys will place their playoff hopes on Miles Austin being the lead wide receiver, with Kevin Ogletree and Dwayne Harris getting more playing time. It also opens up more playing time for rookie Cole Beasley and they still have their leading receiver in Jason Witten.

Dallas won’t be totally void of receiving options but none of these players bring the energy or the ability of Dez Bryant. He brings a physicality and an explosiveness that no other receiver on the team can bring.

The road to the playoffs may have gotten more difficult for the Cowboys and a little more pressure has just been added to Tony Romo and Jason Garrett. As they like to say though, next man up.

Dallas has lost a number of important players to the IR this season and this maybe the injury that finally breaks them. The road to the playoffs is never easy, especially when you don’t have your best players.
